A Sea of RED....powder coated parts. UPDATE 2/19 post 22

Hmmm sounds like a good option then... I had thought about getting some parts coated but wasn't sure how they'd hold up to the sand.

I have been sold on powder coating for years now. Sure there are pros and cons to anything, like if you have to weld repair a powder coated piece. But I will cross that bridge when I come to it. Deep scratches cant be touched up per say. But, Powder coating for a base coat is awesome. You can powder coat stuff then scuff it with Scotch Brite lightly then paint it whatever you want then IF or when you get a deep scratch you can touch it up. The rest of the part will be much better protected then just paint. I just dig the stuff myself.

Took more parts to the powder coaters this week, just picked them up today. DAMN I LOVE powder coating, it's sooo smooth and purdy . I had my Tuffy Delux center consol done cause the PC from Tuffy was peeling off. The black frame brace is for my burb, but the red and blue parts are for my K5.

Thanks, the parts are wet looking, PC is nice and thick, they did a nice job. Got in every nook and cranny of the tuffy box. No loose grit falling out either. It's going to be nice bolting clean parts on.

Yep, powder coating definately is nice. I just took my 40 ton Nugier shop press apart and had it powder coated red. I just finished putting it all back together. I'll have to get a before and after pic posted (in my own thread of course) maybe tomorrow.

Clean pretty painted parts sure do look good.

Looks good, but: Steering arms? Are you going to remove the powdercoat on the metal-to-metal contact surface(s) before assembly?

The flat mounting surface does not matter. The bores are not powder coated. As far as the stud holes and c'sink for the nut I think that will be ok too. If I have to I will though.

I would not trust powder coating on the "metal to metal" surfaces either. The powder coating will give some and can make the nuts become loose. I also would not trust powder coating on the taper seat for the nuts either.

I suppose though if you go back and recheck the torque every so often and they don't loosen up you'll be ok.

I will deffinately keep an eye on it. Won't be hard to remove if necessary. Baring I EVER get the damn thing running.

Even after it is running you might need a much larger engine to move the HEAVY beast.

I don't even have a cage "yet" and i weighed mine last month and was 6020 lbs.

Thats about the average weight though it seems. I've herd as much as 6500 and as light as 5800 if you can call that light .
