Was at a tow/repair shop this past weekend with my buddy and saw this GM truck parked there. It belongs to one of the mechanics. Buddy says the mechanic has no intentions of driving it on the streets and it will be purely mud truck. Period.

Take a gander and see if you can figure what he did.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, too.

From a distance, it has a nice stance to it, approximately 6" IMO. Just when you get underneath.....yikes!

Well it's not that bad, it will ride like hell since it's using medium duty leaf springs added to the original, if he did put a centering pin, worst case might be a fan made of leaf springs since there is nothing holding the leaves towards the edges only in the middle.
He could have done a braket and welded the diff to that frame with a bracket, he would have the same effect, this spring will not move without 5 tons on the truck. :D

Have you guessed what the "add-a-leaves" are from?

It never ceases to amaze me. Modern suspension and it's ideas have been around for sometime now. But there is still some Hillbilly that comes up with this crap:confused:. Spend the money its not that much.

I only guessed them to be at least medium duty truck, I recognize the bent edge, that is used instead of a shackle, it goes in a slot and it slides back and forth as the spring flattens out.
What truck in particular, no.
It could be from a big rig but it seams too thin to be from a big rig.

Not sure on the add a leaves, but did you notice the steering arm on the axle, it appears to have been heated :eek1: and bent up to make a raised one :haha:

He's not a hillbilly. He's pure pothead.

Looks like the springs came from a semi.
Got to love that custom streering arm.:eek1:

Close winner here.

Out back in the "yard", I saw a big field sprayer truck, the kind with the 48" and 66" terra tires, dismantled and missing parts here and there. Upon inspection, the front springs were gone. The rest of the chassis was the same color as these leaves so it was fairly obvious (Hey! Look at my avatar!) these pieces came from a huge truck.

Oh yeah, we bounced up and down on the truck and it did not move. Only the tires moved making it bounce. The springs did not flex at all. :doah:

Forgot to mention, he used a piece of all-thread to make the passenger side u-bolt on the pumpkin side. :doah:

I saw the donor truck the 3/4 ton axles came from and wondered why he had to fab a set of u-bolt plates in the rear when the original plates were still in the bed of the donor truck. Nothing wrong with them either. I thought of snatching them to sell on here for anyone else.

He should have just replaced the springs with I beams. Same effect, lift and no flex.

I dont know why he even bothered with the steering arm, you wont get bump steer if the axle doesnt move.

The rig was much older than the one in your pic. It had "Big Wheels" on the side of it. Didn't pay attention what model it was. I know its been sitting back there for years. I thought about taking the tires off it but the fronts were missing now. The rears had dry-rot real bad.
