Anyone run an AAM yet? Seem like a good diff except for being limited to stock traction aids. No Detroit yet  . Anyway what are they worth? Have oppertunity to get one but want to know if it's worth it.

Its an inch bigger than what most are running, and I believe that they have the same or better ground clearance.

Im not sure how much they are worth yet, But I know plenty of guys with them in their Farm pickups. No one has had any trouble with them yet.

So its like a D80 11.5" ring. what size and spline shafts is the AAM?

I'd say depends on what you;re putting it into. Stick it in a daily driver tow ring for sure but not a wheeler. Strength is increased in the larger ring gear, but I'll be the shafts are the same or equivalent. Just ask yourself When was the last time you saw a broken ring gear in a 14bolt? 10.5 is good enough. its the shafts you'll still be breaking if anything.

I've got a Dana 80 in the rear of my '98 Dodge, its frigging huge, I'd never put that diff in a wheeler.

I'm not interested in running it myself. I figured someone else may want it but I wanted to find out if there was anyone running them first. I don't want to pick it up then be stuck with it. I know how big they are,I have one in my
D-Max.

What about ratios? Anything other than 3.73 and 4.10 available?

I looked at one close up yesterday. Looked like a 10bolt put into a grow machine. Gov-lock and everything.

I think there's more available for a Dana 80 if you need something that beefy. Otherwise a 14bFF is a great value.

Measure the ground clearance. If it has more than a 14b, or d80, then I would jump on it. As far as breakage, I dont think you have to worry about it.

The AAM1150 doesn't appear to excel on ground clearance. My buddy was complaining about how low the D80 hung in his '95 Dodge. Then he saw my 14bFF and quit complaining. :p:

I know 4.65 is avaliable and I think 5.13 is also avaliable

 I don't see any resemblance. They look a lot more like a Dana diff that a 10bolt. Yes they have a Gov-Lock but the Dodge version has a Trac-Loc or something similar that fits and it a lot tougher.

That's probably right but these have disc's already on them and are different :D

I'll measure the one on my D-Max with 33" and post back up.

Didn't realize there were other ratios yet. :)

Maybe the casting is different, but without a size comarison, can you tell me definitively if this is a 10b, 14bSF, or AAM1150?
pic

Size aside, the 14bFF has the bonus of the unboltable pinion and carrier-bearing screw adjusters.

Read up on the Dodge forums... iirc they are not happy with the stock traction device. (similar to tru-trac?) Apparently the gov-lock one is more effective. I think the jury is still out on durability

There are several disc brake D80s.... some are 8x6.5" pattern too.

Thinking about it, the 14b's pinion support is what give its extra strenth. The 11.5 doesnt have that. I dont know what the difference would be.

You'll love this my "98 Dodge, on 35's the GC under the D80 rear..............9 3/8"

On 35s even :doah:

Well,I have 7 7/8" with my 285"s. I measured them and they are 32" tall. There are some D-Max guys swapping in the Dodge traction aid cause it holds up better, they say. My friend says they Dodge traction aid is great. He has been installing them for years. I guess it all depends on who and how it's run .
u2slow your link didn't work for me  .

BTW the AAM 9.5 kinda looks like a 10bolt or 14bolt SF.
