Anyway, my friend just called me, the day after he stopped up, offering the van to me for $500.

Interior in good shape.

I think he was referring to the bug... About the van, sounds like a good deal to me, assuming it runs and drives good.

When I was a kid, some guy in my town had a ratty ass van, a real POS, and on the side was spraypainted, "Don't laugh, your daughter might be in here"... Years later, A friend of mine had a van in his yard that his dad stored parts in, on the side they painted "KEEP OUT OR DIE!" I gotta say, they lived in a fairly rough neighborhood, and nobody ever stole anything from them... It was a landmark of sorts, when giving directions, the van was always a visual aid...
speaking of Pathfinders..
I'm drooling!--there is a nice Pathfinder 4x4 van on "Craigslist" (Boston) for only 1500 bucks in NH!!....it's a steal for what it is!..
Wish I had the money--I'd own that thing in a hearbeat and scrap my 81 G10!...(sob!)...
