I can't find factory style rocker boxes anywhere! How are you guys getting by without them?

BTW I ended up with an extra windshield frame and doors if someone else wants to tackle a conversion

I plan on a cage plus tying it to the firewall and to my sliders.

If you don't want a cage then I think your only real option is to build your own rocker boxes. The hard part will be to construct them in a way that not only makes the floor strong but also prevents flex of the vertical A and B pillars.

The rocker boxes I saw on a truck did not seem thick enough to do much. They were only about as thick as another layer of floor sheetmetal

It'll need something. Once you cut the roof off, with the doors open you can push / pull the firewall assembly. It's not flimsy but you feel the need to brace it.

It’s the shape, not the metal thickness that does the job. They have two nice deep ~4” vertical walls that runs from the firewall footwell all the way back behind the door, and sometimes have a diagonal rod inside that cross ties the front and rear of the box. It’ll sag just sitting in the driveway without something to keep the firewall from leaning back. You’ll notice when you can’t open the doors cause their jammed shut.

So what is the fix? That is what this post is about. Rocker boxes are simply not available on the open market. If someone has a set I'll purchase them. If not, I need something other than a cage

Yeah, like I said it' not super flimsy but it moves easy enough that I've been afraid to drive mine since cutting the roof off. I wont drive it until the cage and bracing is installed.

I ran a 2x4 square tube from front to back and tied it into the footwell and b pillar where the rocker would go, But I also used a cage to ties those together on the top side too. Might be able to get away with just the fabrication below the floor if you don’t want a cage.

Do you have pics of the work underneath?

I'll appreciate pics from everyone!

I’ve also come across these as well. The tube frame was from someone on here but I don’t remember who.

These are the factory rocker boxes.

Would a set of the DIY 4x sliders stiffen it up? It looks like they tie onto the cab right at the a and b pillars

What are the supports shown in this pic called? The one right below the hole for the steering column?
