AC wiring question

I just did a serpentine swap onto my 1986 305 k10 and I had a question about wiring the AC. 1st question the harness in the picture the left side went to my AC on my old V belt set up and I cant remember where the right side goes to. The right side has 2 wires going into the plastic connector and has 12volt hot once the AC is on. The left side goes back to the switch on the dryer and does not get hot when I turn the AC on.

Also the harness that plugs onto the 89 compressor seems to have a resistor that jumps the 2 wires. My 86 plug does not have this, do I need to wire this plug instead of my old one?

that's a diode...prevents current backflow when clutch disengages. I have no idea what the other plug is for...the top pic looks like you're hooked up good.

anyone else?

So I think I figured it out. I just looked at a friends truck and it looks like it goes to the thing on the front driverside of the factory carb. I think this has something to do with measuring the idle. Can anyone confirm what this is, do I need it and is this in deed where that wire connects?

Do I need the plug with the diode of the 89 or can I use mine of the 86 without the diode.

ahh, I see!

when the a/c kicks on, it activates that solenoid to bump up your idle speed. Keeps the motor from dying...

if it worked without the diode to start with, it'll still work. all you did was move it.

Have you checked your alternator plug? I had to use an adapter to get the 89 to work in the 86...my 86 had a different style alternator, wouldn't work in the serp bracket...

and another thing:

If you have a stronger motor you can ditch the idle solenoid. Stock motors of that era really were weak...I retuned my stock 86 motor so I wouldn't need mine, a/c worked foine without killing the engine...although mine is a 350...

Thanks man, yeah I used an adapter plug with the built in resistor for the alt

you will like this set up a lot better. i did mine last summer on my 88 burb. serp belt all the way

Those carb soliniods for the AC have been used for many things off road before ECM. Like higher idle for for warm up, rockcrawling, air compressor , welder, etc...
