What do I need to adapt my 208 case to a TH400 tranny I have laying around?
What do I need to adapt my 208 case to a TH400 tranny I have laying around?
While we're on this subject---I have a 1974 Monte Carlo TH400 with the short tail, and a NP208 TH400 T-case & adapter from a 80's GM 4x4--any chance I can unbolt the "tail" ,and the tailshaft will slide all the way into that T-case, and be useable "as is" ??..or is the output shaft too long, even on a "short tailed" 400?..
I tried doing searches but got very confused, with all the various "swaps" !..
fyi those pics and specs are for th350 tranny.
th400 diffrent.
The 4x4 transmissions use a shorter output shaft than the 2wd's. I tried to find the exact specs, but couldn't for some reason. I did find some pictures though.

This Tail Shaft length is 3". This Tranny would fit a NP208 or NP241 Transfer Case with the proper adapter.

If they don't work, http://www.justchevytrucks.com/truckparts/transmissions.html.
