So I am pretty much in love with most 60s drag cars specifically Gassers. I would trade quite a bit of my treasure for a nicely built 55-56 Chevy, 57 Ford, Henry j, Willy's with a straight axle and a big block Chevy.

So I got this idea to build my daughter a wagon with a straight axle and a ladder bar setup with working suspension and actual steering front axle.

KINGPIN RIGHT REAR.PNG This is a rear view of the right front spindle. The "c" angles the king pin so the axis is through the lower center of the tire tread. the Ackerman angle of the arm is 15 deg and comes from drawing a line from the center point of the rear axle up to the king pin axis. Yes the spindle hole is too large but I just haven't fixed it.KINGPIN REAR.PNG Another view.LADDER BAR ASM LEFT.PNG

This is the rear ladder bar set up. The green line is the collapsed location and the circle is the 10" karts tire. Not overly happy with the angle but to get the leverage right on the spring it looks like this is what it will be.

The 2 circles are the lower coil spring seats.

Wait till I get darin to paint the tub candy apple red and do lace work.

This is a seat spring from a single seat Harley. The pair was $8. The rate is 55lbs per inch hence the 4"s of lever the ladder bar has.

I was having a tough time finding leaf springs for the front. I ended up buying these 1095 high carbon steel from Brownells. I tried bending the first one tonight, it it looks ok. I will have to quench and temper them before they can be used as springs.

Here's a little inspiration I found on a garage tour during the Chevy Nomad Convention...
