Advantages to Manual Warn locking Hubs rather than stock auto locking hubs.

You're the minority then.

Wait till they fail.

I love the auto locks on my blazer. That way I always know that when I want 4wd I will be able to use it and I don't have to worry about the hubs not engaging or waiting for the transfer case to engage like in our 98 suburban.

Not trying to be an a$$ here - The reasons you list are exactly the reasons for manual locking hubs. Once manuals are locked - they are locked. No driving into or out of them to get them to engage. No wondering if they locked.

I kept my hubs locked when I lived in snow country years ago. The only thing needed was to move from 2 hi to 4 hi without stopping or missing a beat. The axle was already moving and synced to the drive line speed. AFAIK - you can't do that with auto hubs.

Thats how Ive been running my K5 this winter, although I think I need new axle joints, it tends to wander a bit more locked in then not.

Up here in the winter you just lock your hubs in around November and unlock them in April or so. You definitely need to make sure your junk is in working order though.

Are Warn's the best to get.

I personally like Warn Premiums.

The only problem was on another truck down at Rocky Point (18 years ago). A hub spring broke which left me stuck on the beach until I opened it up and got the broken piece out. I got it fixed, it locked in (replaced when I got back to the States).

Others on here don't like Warn Prem. and have told horror stories. I think it ultimately comes down to personal preference.

I don't remember - I think it was the Mile Marker that people had the most issues with and generally avoid. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

I carry a set of new Superwinch hubs as well as a set of slugs when I go off-road. just in case.
