'Course we're scheduled for 5"-11" of snow tomorrow, so I'm not going to start driving him yet. But I'm glad to have gotten one spring drive in before winter resumes.

Just read this entire thread and I'm dying for more pics. I've lived on the east coast my whole life so I haven't gotten to see much of the west yet, but it's cool to see pics. It's also cool that the thresher mans reunion looks about the same as the one in PA.
Cool. Welcome to CK5, glad you've enjoyed this thread. What pictures are you looking for? More of the truck? I actually don't have a whole lot more of the truck. I didn't take many pictures during the building phase, and I somehow managed to lose even those few. But I have a few recent pictures of it trailering.
If you're looking for more scenery pictures, I have plenty of those, and I post more up whenever folks ask for them. I also have 4 other threads with trip reports in them. While others might post build photos, I try to capture the different places we travel.
So just lemme know what you want, and I'll get some up soon. Ish.
Any and all pics with machinery from the truck to the thresher mans reunion to the mine. It's all cool to look at. I'm feeling inspired to take some shots of my travels both for work and for pleasure.
Definitely do that, the travel pictures are something that make life interesting. And if I have persuaded you to get out and enjoy the world around you, I have accomplished my goal (in addition to giving myself an easy way to remember the cool places we've been).
I find it a little funny that you're calling Michigan "out west," but I guess that's relative.

I used to almost itch for that glorious spring day in Northern Michigan when the snow was gone and the rains had washed away the road salt. Only then would Big Ugly emerge from the garage.
We may have reached that point. We did get 12" of snowfall right after that test run, but it melted off very promptly and the temps are so warm here I will probably get it officially on the road before much longer.
Let me clear this all up...
Out West = South Haven, Holland, Muskegon, etc.

Kansas is not boring......how much twine do you have in one spot up there?!!!
I've crossed Kansas at least a dozen times. The rolling hills in the Eastern side do feel kinda like home to me (I'm from the rolling prairie of Eastern Iowa), but the Western side has always seemed boring. Just because of how spread out everything is. I can look at the same hill for dozens of miles before I get to it.
But I haven't made it to the twine ball yet, so I'm clearly missing the essence of what makes Kansas a great place.
So to me, everything is still down from me in my mind. I grew up on a hill about six miles off of pavement. The only place that I really think of as north is Maine/ Canada. Everything else is west or south except New Hampshire which is "next door". The problem is that I now live in coastal southern Georgia and people look at me like I'm crazy when I say that I'm going down so South Carolina to look at a truck.
Alright, the other threads are all caught up, so we'll return to 2013 and the beautiful Northwoods of North-Central Wisconsin. Here's a sampling of what we saw that year.
More driving on frozen lakes (this one is Lake Antoine near Iron Mountain, MI).
Saw this M1008 in town. Windshield spray makes the shot fuzzy, but welcome to life up here.
Don't see many old rigs up here in decent shape. And it's really rare to see them out during the salt season. Also, that Kmart has closed since then. Yet another dead spot in yet another dying Yooper town. And most towns are worse off than Iron Mountain.
Some pictures from the MTU winter carnival that year. The students carve up the city's flat spaces into interesting sculptures. This year had a superhero theme.
As everything is white and snowy, pictures don't even start to do it justice. But here goes...
The detailing is amazing. If you're ever bored of February's drear and want to head up to da middle of nowhere, this is the place to be.
