ok, I went home and slept on it. The next morning I confirmed that everything was correct. The ground is what makes the horn sound, but I was having a problem figuring out how it was going to get ungrounded until the horn button on the center cap was pushed, then the whole picture became clear. The center cap/horn button is elevated off the steering wheel by a spring, which means that the end of the horn wire, being connected to the connector just behind the cap, would not be grounded until the cap is pushed. So I went ahead and disconnected the battery, continued the installation all the way, reconnected the battery, pushed the horn button, and it worked beautifully, just like it should. I realized that my thought of keeping the battery connected to alert me of it not being hooked up right, was ok, but just very annoying because of the noise. On the '73 Blazer installation, you have to follow the Grant instructions exactly, especially on the brass plunger portion. The only thing Grant did not discuss was having to take off the cover plate that screws on to the metal plate that acts as the wheel lock when the key is in the off position. You have to take this cover off in order for the new adaptor cover to fit properly. I went as far as depressing the whole mechanism, removing the retaining ring, and starting from the turn signal switch and back out. By the way, unless you have the depression tool, this can be difficult. I could do it in my sleep now, but it was the second guessing that made me stumble. If anyone needs help, I would be glad to help, at least with the same model and install as I have.
