Advice on 14B disk brake brackets

I've run the Az-Kicking brackets for 2 years now without any trouble. The spacers aren't exactly thin wall tube...

Building a better mousetrap is one thing, incessantly 'improving' on a product to the point it is overbuilt and blinged out as much as it can be in another. The Az-kickin style work just fine, I'm not worried about them at all and I've had my 40's locked up several times now.

What's next...is someone gonna make the brackets from billet 300M then have them coated with manganese phosphate? :surepal:

I agree with you on that one. That is what happens though when there are so many out there making them. I have considered getting out of them completely since I don't make all that much on them but I still sell a quite a few so I guess as long as people order I'll keep making them.

It's the nature of business in general I guess. Look no further than car manufacturers. Every year there are more and more 'features', and then the requisite marketing BS needed to explain to us dummies why we absolutely have to have them...

How about a simpler version of something, instead of more bling, more unobtanium, and more useless features that needlessly complicate something simple?

Like you said its the nature of the beast. I think you do best finding a happy medium. Over build it, its too expensive and you can't sell it. Under build it and nobody wants it and you can't sell it.

14 bolt disk breaks

I would really go with the spider brackets because they are stronger. I got mine from Off Road Design and they are awsome!!!! 160$ for the kit and then you need loaded calipers and rotors for a 3/4 dana 44.

cybrfire, and trustyk5...you say build a better mouse trap but dont over build just for the sake of it, well thats why i made the disk rotor spacers i posted a while back. they eliminate caliper spacers all together. the caliper bracket bolts directly the flange on the axle. the hole has to be big enough to fit over the biggest shoulder next to the flange. with the spacer setup you probably have increased leverage, and aditional stress or sheer load put on the bolts by the limited surface area of the spacers and the length of the bolts under hard breaking. with the caliper bracket bolted to the flange with no spacers you should have less sheer load on the bolts. the other positive aspect is you dont have to pound the studs out everytime you change the rotor. take a look at the photos in this post and let me know what you think. dont mean to hijack this post, just showing a different idea.

Finally, some good info. As several have said, there are quite a # of people selling brackets. I have seen quite a few, but Cyberfire is the only one who offers the brackets with 8 mounting holes, which I think is a plus.

Has anybody actually broken any bolts or bent one of anybody's brackets?

I wanted some for my 12 bolt and ordered those from Black Widow the next day after seeing those! They really did me right too as I already had rotors. Good people!!!

Fred, I haven't heard of anyone bending or breaking anyone's disc brackets...whether they used 4 spacers, a single disc spacer or whatever.

With the variety out there I'd chose the kit with the features that are the most important to you. I don't think there is a wrong choice to be made, and prices don't vary enough to feel 'taken' by anyone. One thing I wanted and got with the Az-kickin brackets on my truck was grade 8 hardware.
