Advice on K5 shopping list

The HMMWV are a cheap option for right now just to get it on the road. I'll probably go with TWF Guard Dogs. So the D70 HD uses 1350 U Joint also, right? As for the lockers, most definitely. I was thinking about a lunch box in the front and Detroit in the rear. I've had good results with that combo in the the past, though it was in a YJ. (much lighter vehicle)
I am not sure of the yoke size on the D70, I would think it is at least a 1350.
I've never seen a D70 with anything smaller than a 1350 on it.

The Spartan and Lockrites (lunchbox lockers) get really great review for the D60s, even over on Pirate. I think the carrier strength on the big axles is enough that it's not really an issue at that point. Really, how many carrier failures have you seen on a D60?

Do you happen to have pictures of how you did this?
I have the axle out again to set up gears, but it kind of worked out so there's only room enough to do it one way really. There's exactly 3" between the frame rail and the inside edge of the spring, which is just enough room for the shock body. The blue brackets on the frame rail are about 3.5" tall and 2" apart inside, and I made them with a flange along the vertical edges so that it wasn't just one narrow weld cutting in to the frame, and the shock is bolted in about flush with the top of the frame rail because that's about as high as I can go without having trouble with a ratchet since I don't have any body lift. The mount on the axle is just 2x2 square tubing and they're welded on at the axle centerline. That actually worked out to exactly perfect for the 12.5" travel shocks I'm using, but if you had shorter shocks you could just rotate the lower mount up (which would get it out of the rocks anyway). My axle is moved back 2", so fitting them behind the axle would have been a pain, but if your axle is in the stock location there would probably be much less of an issue. Also, the indentation on the drivers side frame rail for the stock shock locating was just barely an issue for me, again it probably wouldn't be if your axle wasn't moved back like mine.

Please excuse my paint skills lol.

That's what I figured. I'm going to get my hands on a CUCV rear drive shaft and have it shortened. I don't want to have the drive shaft be the weak link after adding everything.

Just curious, but whoever swapped the carb on that thing, did they hack up the TBI wiring? If I were you I would try to swap it back to TBI. You can find used TBI setups for next to nothing.

Clean for the most part, though there are a lot of unused plugs in the engine bay. Right now I'm concentrating more on the suspension and steering. I only get to spend a month home in between 90 day rotations out here, so I'm only going to focus on one area at a time. I might have to farm out some of the build as soon as I can find someone locally.
