i need to gig up the gauges on my 86 cause the factory dash cluster died long before i got the truck. im gonna use the original bezel and mount the gauges i nthere to keep it clean. most of its self explanitory tach hooks to my msd box water oil voltage ect to their respective senders. my question is how can i hook up the speedo and how to they work? are they mechanical or electric pickups? the original 700 trans is long gone as is its sending cable. i opted for a sm465 np205 combo instead. how would i go about hooking up a aftermarket speedo because the 205s sending port is 40 years old and damaged beyond repair

Depends on wheather you got a mechanical or electric speedo. If mechanical, have cable made. NAPA or any speedo shop can make it. If electric there is a mech to electric adapter you can buy the screws on to your 205 and has a couple wires to run to your speedo. Just buy the appropriate one for your speedo and follow the instructions.

There are also a few options available using a GPS signal for the speedo. This option eliminates the need for any pickup on the transfer case, as well as being immune to tire/gear changes without recalibration. This type of speedo will require lighting, power, ground and a GPS antenna. The downside is if there are a lot of tunnels nearby, or that you have to go through, may cause a loss of signal and I don't know how they respond to that.
