What brand is the best for all of our axles?

If money were no object, which would you pick?

How many different names are there?

Front or rear?

For the front, I WANT a set of Longfields for my 60. :drool: :pant: :drool:

Let me rephrase the post:

What would you pick for each of the axles we all use?

D44
D60
10B front

10B rear
12B
14SF
14FF
D70HD
Eaton

You can take Eaton off your list.

Noone makes axles for the H052 H072 rears....I guess cause they dont break.

Ive run up to 44s on locked Eaton rears with plenty of HP and never hade one fail.

But for Dana 60 I really would like a set of
Superior Axles for mine.

D44 ? everything I see for these are crap
D60 : I run Yukon chromo 35splines with Spicer Joints, Broke one short side inner so far
If I had the $ to blow it would be Longfield CVs
10B front: See D44 since they are the same

10B rear: Come on its a friggin c clip axle
12B: better but still... See above
14SF: Dont know enough to make an opinion
14FF: How many of these have you seen broken?
D70HD: wish I knew

Eaton: This is what I run in the rear... I have a spare set of axle shafts, but I dont think they will ever break. Have you ever seen what whey look like... They are huge!

Dont know if the above helps

The Eaton can use the 14FF shafts but only if you swap out the side gears inside of a locker such as Detroit.

I've read and heard about this. If you have an Eaton rear, you can pull the Detroit (if it has one, or you buy one) and replace the side gears for the 30 spline ones, you can run 14FF shafts.

you can but I dont know why you would. here is a pic of my spare eaton shafts. The only reason I have spares is they came with the axle when I bought it.

well, I just got a set of used superior 4340 chromo's for my 12 bolt, and a set of alloy usa d44 shafts with ctm joints, the guy I got them from was running 37" tires and an ord doubler, and he was HARD on them.

But people say us AZ guys know how to wheel our chit without tearing it up.

Well, from the looks of it my 14bsf shafts are bigger (they're bigger than ff shafts too :D).

Second, it looks like someone already twisted the splines on the shaft in those pics. That's probably why they are spares :doah:

I've read that you can get dana 70 shafts from CTM but they are a custom item and big $$$. If you can get them (long waiting period) superior makes really good shafts for all of the above axles except for the eaton and d70. Longfield CV shafts are hands down the best for the dana 60 front. I think there has only been one reported breakage and that was on fourwheeler magazine's project Titan that was running 46"s and ive seen video of them doing frt.wheel burnouts and turning the tires lock to lock!!

1950.00 per side for the D60 longfields ???? :eek1::eek1::eek1::eek1:
Thats both sides with joints guaranteed for life. Compare that to a full set of CTMs or Superiors and it aint that bad. Plus the CV joints dont bind and allow more degree of turning. Oh and last I read there is a 3 week turnaround time for longfield

YUKON SUCKS balls in general. Some of there 35spl D60 stuff is ok, but that is about all.

D44/10b= Alloy USA, Superior, Warn
D60= Longfields, Superior, Alloy USA, CTM, w/CTM or longfield joints
14bff= break one and then figure it out
D70=pretty much the same as 14bff
12b= Superior
10b= Superior
14bsf = Don't know who makes axles for them.

If you break the D70 or 14bff you can upgrade to CTM's. Big money double splined alloy shafts with drive slugs. He makes the "drive home axles" for the D80 for Dodge Cummins sled pullers. Pretty much guarantee's you can never break them, but I think they are something like $2-3K

Detroit Clarification

I had a 14 bolt Detroit and a Eaton No-spin (Detroit) sitting side by side. The No-spin was out of a late '60 pick up that I pulled myself. The side gears were not interchangeable. However, you can put the entire 14 Bolt Detroit in the Eaton if you want to run the 14 Bolt axle shafts.
