Aftermarket shafts

:eek1:I dont know...for $1950 I can by alot of used replacement spicer axles.
And if you're a hardcore crawler, you will get tired of swapping out those Spicers, quickly, after you keep breaking them over and over again.
Pay for the Longfields one time and be done with it.

Not to mention that often times, a broken shaft means a broken locker, spindle, etc.

The Longfields are certainly not for everyone but if you break a couple Spicer shafts, its time to upgrade.

Thats true.
I havent broken my Spicers yet so I guess Im good for a while.

when I broke the stock shaft in my front dana 44 I upgraded to a warn shaft. after I broke the warn, and its replacement I upgraded to a dana 60. In my personal opinion the best upgrade for a dana 44 is a dana 60. :D

I have beaten on my truck pretty hard for the last 9 years and have not broken a 14 bolt shaft. if I do I'll swap in the stock spares I have and wheel them for another decade.

for a dana 60 the best has to be Longfields. but damn thats expensive.

I haven't priced any shafts or CTM's lately,,But I'm thinking that by the time I buy 4 shafts,,2 CTM u-joints..thats expensive too. plus if I break one,
I get to buy new ones plus all the labor and collateral damage that may come with it.

I think over the long run the longfields may be worth the extra $$$

I completely agree that any way you go is expensive but when you buy longfields its all up front. not like buying a shaft here and there as you break them.

and last time I checked 1 ctm is $322.

And what about when a broken inner shaft takes out the front locker as well? (If you are running 1)

EDIT: should have read the other posts, doah

You are looking at $1300 or so for a set of CTMs, so $1950 doesn't seem to bad considering the durability and warranty of the Longfields. Those are definately on my wish list.

Mrdrinksalils theory of evolution...

1)anything up to a D60 = Caveman technology. Yall can have all the D44s, yota axles, d30-35s, should I even say it... sami axles. I have no use for that garbage.

2)D60 w/ longfields and 45* of steering has a lifetime warranty on 47's!!!

3) 2.5ton rockwells... Nothing says your serious about your love for heavy rigs, the skinny pedal, HP and big rubber like a rockwells.

4) 2.5 tons and overson shafts... If you've broken enough rockwells axles to NEED overson shafts, you are the man and I want to ride with you. I only know one person who NEEDED overson shafts besides Tim Cameron. And hes a blast to ride with...

This is how we roll...

5) 5tons... Yet to be seen but I know a couple people thinking about it...

WTF?!!? Changable wheelbase?

the rigs name is ELMO and the driver/builder is Roger... He is insane, and is one of the nicest people that you will ever meet. There is a fuel tank behind the cab that holds the hydrolic fluid for the rams that extend the frame/wheelbase... as Paul said its how they roll

gabe:D

That could help out in a lot of situations. I know I have had some moments where a foot or two shorter WB would have mad life a lot easier
