The carpet was getting pretty rough in my K30 work truck 30 years of age, my muddy and greasy boots, and a leaky heater core had taken a toll on the carpet. The door panels were getting rough too. All 4 were totally faded out to grey , my driver door was getting to where I had to slam it to get it shut, and my armrests and pull straps were basically in pieces. Not to mention the funky smell that was getting bad on warm days, the carpet being the stinky culprit. My felts and scrapers looked like they were as old as the pyramids and weren't doing their jobs either anymore.

New carpet kit, new front door panels, armrests, straps, and new door pins/bushings/striker on the driver side. New felts and scrapers, and I repainted the rear door panels. My silverado door trim is actually in near mind condition, so I cleaned and reused all that.

I was an idiot and didn't take photos of the front door panels or old carpet, but I did dig up this old picture from when I first bought the truck, it had only gotten worse with 4 more years of heavy use as a mechanic truck.

Classic parts sells door pin kits. It's really easy actually. Once the door is off, I just take a die grinder and cut the old pins in half, pound them out, then pound out the worn bronze bushings, and reinstall the new bushings/pins. I did both doors on my K5 and just the drivers on my K30. I've got everything shutting and latching like it's new now. New strikers REALLY help too.

I contemplated just tearing everything out of the cab and painting/reupholstering to the factory slate gray, but the saddle tan actually looks pretty good when the carpet isn't dingy and the doors are fresh, especially with a black exterior.

You'll need two guys to get the doors on and off. I put the doors back on my K5 by myself, but it was a motherf.......

When i did my 94, i padded the top of some jack stands, and had a buddy hold them up on the stands.

I am a Classic Parts faithful at this point. LMC can kiss my butt. Both the door panels for my K5 and for my K30 are NOS GM. Classic still has a bunch of them. They are cheap too, I paid $143 a set after a 10% discount I got. Carpet, again through Classic, and is ACC brand, for $170 something, after 10% off. The new interior felt window scrapers that clip onto the door panel, and the inside of the door are kind of a b$tch to reinstall, but otherwise it's fairly simple. The carpet was a minor challenge, there is quite a bit of trimming because they send the kit with a little extra around the edges. I've got the same ACC carpet kit still in the box here for my K5, and am hoping it's a little easier to do than my crew cab, the CC's are kind of a pain with the way the floor pan is shaped.

On the rear panels? Great, because no one sits back there very often. THe front would be the issue, but I used a spray on adhesion promoter and I think it stuck really well. The NOS GM panels come gray, you have to paint to match if you don't already have slate gray.

I used SEM flexible coating, camel being the color.

Glad to help anyone with the same goal in mind. These 80's trucks really are pretty nice when everything is new inside. I bet these trucks looked great inside and out when they were new on the lots. They just don't build them like they used to, with the interior in mind.

It is tan right now and i'm tempted like you to go to grey... not sure yet! I love the interior of these trucks, very classy haha... I wish I owned that black shortbox that classic parts has in their showroom.

What steered me away from going gray was that I would have to replace my dashpad, and remove every little piece of trim from the headliner to the carpet and paint gray. I didn't have that much time or desire to make it that big of a job. I'm already doing that with my K5 and it's time consuming painting all those little plastic pieces.

NOT a fan of the interior colors other than grey, but really, yours looks great in Tan! I would have left it too.

And really, the interior's of these trucks are pretty nice. Yes, not all the comforts of new trucks, but i am slowly adding most of the comforts to mine. LOVE my compass/temp mirror, and heated seats are next on the list. Laugh all you want, the women love them.....

Didn't know all the panels came grey, learn something new everyday....
