Air bag rear suspension. For towing?

yep weld a new set of spring perches on the bottom side and bolt in the arms .

trailing arm truck suspension is so good at what it does thats why nascar and other forms of road / track racing us it to this day .

I wish Gm had stuck with it its really a good design

and easy to make a 2wd 4wd in the rear by flipping the arm's on top . and then taller springs .

one of the 4x4 truck mag's years and years ago showed a guys 67-72 he did ford radius arm front swap on and used the 2wd gm upper coil buckets and then flipp and taller springs rear for 38" tires . it was a sexy white and pin strip job .

Modern day version , I would use a super 60 from an 05-up supeduty and convert it to standard 8-on-6.5 pattern and use a 11.5 in the rear ........ at least that’s the plan for my 79 lol

Air Lift or Firestone helper bags are a great upgrade if you want to run softer rear springs, Just raise the air pressure when the extra weight capacity is needed. If you can't find the brackets for these trucks let me know. With my lift I won't be able to use the set of Air Lift 5000 (2500lbs per bag) that I pulled off my truck.

On my 82 crew cab dually I swapped the old broken 9+1 stock rear spring packs out for a set of 64"s from a late 2000's Chevy 3500HD cab and chassis which has been a big upgrade. The main pack rides smooth. They also have a few leaves on an upper overload pack.

I ordered my 2016 Ram with the rear air ride option. I was skeptical when I ordered it but it was a cheap option relative to the total sticker price. That was the best option ever. It has a built in pump that has 2 settings. 1 is level for towing and the other raises the rearend up so it looks like it has springs. I honestly have no idea why it needs the higher setting unless you were going to raise the front with a leveling kit. I keep it on the lower (level) setting all the time. All this to say you might use this as a model and rob what you need off a wrecked Ram. I bet the stuff has no value in the used market. Probably could get the stuff cheap if you could find it in a pick a part.

If you want better pictures I’ll jack it up and pull a wheel off and I can hold a tape measure up or get you whatever dimensions you want.
