Would that stove piece on the manifold come off? What's it made of?
I'm interested...would love to have the whole air cleaner assembly and stove pipe assembly.
PM me on how much you need for the whole set.
Oh, sorry man, I thought you just wanted the photos. Yeah, I'm not parting it out...not just yet. I still have some hope of restoring it. Kind of a labor of love after owning it for 35 years. It hasn't run in the last 15.
Also, can you sandblast that kind of stuff or will it ruin it?
You can actually still find the whole heat stove assembly new, either OEM (kinda expensive) or reman. It's riveted on the manifold. I wouldn't think that sandblasting would ruin it but I'm not sure. You are looking for GM part numbers GM # 338473 and GM # 338471 on the two main stove assembly pieces. I've found them on eBay and you can get the reman stuff even on Amazon. You'd need the rivets too. The only thing I can't find a part number for is the stove pipe itself. But I'm sure if you kept an eye out you could find one. They are all the same basically for any '70s SBC. After searching a bit today I've seen people talking about them for Impalas and Camaros and they are the same ones.
I snapped a few pics out of my service manuals in case that helps. Again, you can view the large pics on the same link as above.
Also, I looked at your other photos...the trim strips in the back, they look just like the ones I have with the strange pattern on them...are those original or are they supposed to be black like the outside trim?
They are original. It's that funky '70s pattern. It's on the side trim on the back panels and is the same funky pattern on the chrome around the door panels. Unfortunately, the pattern has worn off on the tops of the door panels where the sun baked it off over 20 years in west Texas.
I saw your photos and the where you said that you had driven it for years...not sure what your situation is but that one can be saved. You got almost all the original stuff in there...the rocker boxes are eat up but those could be replaced.
I can't believe how much of the original stuff you have in there...I'd like to see it driving again.
Yeah, the plan is to restore it, although that will be a herculean task and pretty expensive. I literally drove that truck into the ground and it needs everything. I would be way ahead to get one in really good shape and start with a good base. However, this green '76 has a ton of sentimental value. Not sure if I could take watching it go away on a flatbed to the crusher.
So, since it's so original, if you ever need any other pics (of whatever translates to your '74) just let me know.
