i have power at the plug but it doesn't run,i hit the reset button but nothing(it humz)
its a husky 5hp,26gallon,135 psi and 100% duty cycle
castiron head,belt driven

thanks for any help

Humming makes me think the motor is trying to run.

First up, remove the belt and see if the compressor proper spins. If not, fix that. It's like a tiny engine, one or two cylinder ... take the "head" off and you can see inside. I found that sand and grit and crap got into the cylinder walls on mine and scored it up so bad it leaked past the rings. :( If there's any markings on the cylinder wall ... well, you should see when you're in there. You can get new compressor pumps, at Harbor Freight even.

Also with the belt off, start it up, see if the motor spins. If not, fix the motor. If it's humming we presume it's got power, but it may be that the starting capacitor is bad or unwired or something. Compressors vibrate a lot and shake stuff loose.

Also make sure you can turn the motor shaft by hand ... it could be seized. If so, I'd take it to the local starter-alternator guy, or scrounge another motor.

That should get you started, as it were...
