Air compressors - sold mine, what do you think of this one?

I too had an oiless 60gal 5hp that I used for years and was in the middle of a paintjob when I HAD to have something now...it lasted at lest 10 years before it blew a connecting rod...and I used it regularly....loud, you bet, inefficient compared to a two stage oil type, yes again. But if you only need air on a infrequent basis, and no heavy use, I would get one again to have an air supply handy when needed.
Bad thing is its like a welder, you don't know how much you have needed one til you have it. Then you find all kinds of uses for it.

Put it on Craigslist today and within an hour a guy emailed me. Less than 4 hours later he's driven up here, paid me, picked it up, and gone home with it. Didn't even try to negotiate for $350 cash.:D

Okay, in that vein, my gf gets a slight discount at Lowe's. What do you think of this CH 20 gallon unit:

It's oilless but sounds like it has pretty good features. I'd end up paying a bit less than I got for the other one.

Why would you get that oil less, when people posted cheap oil'd ones at costco? Similar size.

No Costco around here. Everywhere I'm looking has oil free.

Shipping and handling included.

If you need a costco number, i can order for you.

I know i preached how my oilless has survived, but after seeing the small oiled, i'd go that way for sure. Especially for that price.

Hmmmm...really wish it had a higher capacity. I'm downsizing but not so much. Thinking I want to keep it at least 15 gallons.
Pretty sure Harbor Freight carries a similar one too.
Anybody got any thoughts on the quality of the HF compressors? I'm intrigued by them but a little leary.

dont they come with a warranty? take it back and dump it in their laps til they give you a new one.

No, you can still set the regulator to 100+. Pretty much any air tool you use will have a max of 90 anyway. Volume is the main issue, but you're not going to get around that with this small of a tank no matter what brand. It runs the impact (90-95psi) and plasma (70psi) but I have to let it catch up if I'm running them hard.

If you're going to put it in an attached garage I would avoid the oil less. I bought mine when I was renting and needed something portable and 110V. It had its own room at that house so noise wasn't a big deal. Two years later I moved and had a detached garage with a back room where I kept the compressor- again noise wasn't a big deal. Nine years later I moved to this house- attached garage again, but no side rooms.

So, 15+ years after I bought it I can't stand how loud it is. However, it's done everything I needed except run a cutoff wheel. It will do it just not very well. If I were in your shoes I'd be looking for an oil lubed, 25-35 gal, upright, 110v. The up right because you said space was important.

I'm finding it's very difficult to find an oiled compressor under 60 gallongs any more.

Especially in the 20gal range.

As it stands now I'm leaning toward the Lowe's units. Yeah, their oilless but I like the 200psi capacity and the price and features. Because of a coupon I am getting and my gf's Lowe's card I'm going to get like 15% off so they're much cheaper due to that.

For what you want it for it will probably be fine- just loud. Get some ear plugs.

Ended up buying the 15gal, 200psi one from Lowe's. With the discount I got it was $209 which wasn't bad. Should do nicely for what I want to do any more.
I wish it was oilled but I just couldn't find any. HD, HF, Sears/Craftsman/etc all around here sell oilless air compressors unless you buy a big one like I just sold.:dunno:
Also kind of wanted the 20 gal version but they only sold it with a complete air tool setup for $100 more. I already have all the tools so it would have been redundant. If they sold it without the tools for less I'd have gone for it. This should be good.
Doing brakes on the gf's best friend's car soon so I'll get to use it soon.

Didn't do the break in procedure yet because it was 8pm when I got it put together. Didn't want to disturb the entire cul-de-sac.

Broke it in after work. While it is noisy I can't say it's louder than the my old compressor was.
