So being i just bought a new house i am on the hunt for a new compressor. I was thinking 60-80 gal 220v 5hp ish type set-up. After endless craigslist searching ive come up a bit empty handed. What do you guys suggest? Where to buy etc? Ideas? I was hoping to spend in the max of 800 dollar range

Keep cruising craigslist really.

Something will come up eventually also search ebay and put auctions in your area to come up first.

I am sure someone will give you this advice but as big as you can afford.

For a better brand ( like polar air Eaton or quincy) I would get a smaller one vs a less expensive brand for probably close to the same cfm and a better overall compressor

Make SURE you get a duel stage compressor. Also don't buy an Aluminum motored compressor. Like plasma cutters, with a compressor get the biggest capacity you can afford. I have a 7.5hp 80gal all cast iron motor but it's a single stage. Runs way more often them my buddy's duel stage compressor and puts out less cfm.

Mine will max out at 125/130 psi tank pressure. My buddy's tank gage will read 175psi. Of course you're suposed to run air tools at 90psi but I run all my air tools at my max pressure. Never have had an air tool wear out or go bad from it. I may not run them at 175psi but if you ever want a grit blast cabinet you'll be glad you bought a duel stage compressor. And I would go more then 5hp if you can swing it cost wise.

northern tool usually has free shipping... love my Quincy, but IR's are good too.. as Rob mentioned 2 stage is sweet...

Lowes, Cambell Hausfield 60 gallon 3.2 HP 220volt for under $500 couple years ago has done me well. 2 years, lots of airtools and it will run my sand blaster cabinet steady forever. Also runs a borrowed plasma cutter steady. Don't know how you could run out of air at home with one guy working?

I bought a 60 gallon 5hp quincy from northern tool I love it but I don't think anything smaller would've kept up when I was blasting my frame glad I bought as big as I did tractor supply had a 60 gal single stage ir for 900 also not a bad compressor

shouldn't matter.. order thru the website.. it's what I did.. it should be free truck freight ...

Yep they make it pretty clear what compressors ship free. In my past looking they are always at or near the top for price too.

I have ordered several things through them never had any issue

i bet it does! deal of the year there, that's a serious compressor.. the IR should treat ya good..

Thats the exact same comp. my buddy has. It works awesome, and since it's a 2 stage it doesn't run constantly. SToked for you brother! :waytogo:

Well my wifes auction company just sold a 5 hp 60 or 80 gal Quincey on the 5th. I know he has some more tool auctions coming up. Check it out at www.zburnsauctioneers.com for the upcoming sales. Just a small trip back to the old nehiborhood for ya. Usually some kick butt deals too. Saw a big 80 gal snappy sell for $1100 about 5 months ago.

We have also had good luck with the porter cable the old man picked up in billings. 5 horse and 80 gal. we run evertything on it, blast cab, paint sprayers, shaker, DA etc.etc......
