Air, fuel and spark...but it won't run?!

Is the outer ring of the harmonic balancer still aligned with the inner yoke/ring?
Uhh, I dunno. The only time I ever mess with harmonic balancers is removing them while rebuilding a motor. I know their keyed and can only go on one way.
Got a pic or description of what your talking about?

Well, it was 180 out. I replaced the crank bolt, thanks 4x4High. However, still no start. Hmmmm.
Fuel:the spark plugs are soaked with it. And I regapped them to .045.
Air:Duh.
Spark:I checked, it's there. Timing is set at 15BTDC. Is 15 right?

Fuel fouled plugs will never work correctly again. Start with a fresh set of plugs and gap them at .045" and set the timing around 4-6 BTDC.

For sh*ts and giggles I pulled all the plugs again (Head Hugger Headers suck!) and blasted them, dipped them in Chemtool and reinstalled them...fired right up! I had the fuel shutoff on the carb, so it sputtered it out after burning what was in the combustion chamber. I opened the screws 1/2 turn each to give it a little something to adjust off of and nothing. I'll replace the plugs tomorrow and with any hope it'll fire up and I can start focusing on whatever else comes up.

Thanks again to everyone. You all really helped out. It's nice to have other mechanically savvy people to bounce ideas off of. I'll let you all know how things go tomorrow after the new plugs are installed.

:bow:Thanks again!

Just my preference but i've had the best luck with the NGK V-power plugs.

Throw the taylor wires as far as you can as fast as you can. I ran a set years ago and unless their quality became better over the years they are crap. The wires arced bad brand new out of the box. Easy enough to check once the engine is running and you start the engine at night and take a look for any arcing wires.

Hmm, never had that problem. I've installed those and DIY Accell's on so many cars and trucks I can't even count. I'll take a look though, see what I can find. I usually go with the DIY Accell kits cause I like to cut my wires to situate perfectly. And with these headers, I gotta do somethin'. It's such a tight fit.

With headers and the tight clearance issues associated with them i like to use the MSD wires. MSD wires have a 1200* boot and i've never had a problem with them. You can get the DIY wires for around $50.00-60.00 IIRC.

I'll see what I can find. I like staying with a theme (MSD).

I'v been running Taylor wires with headers on both my Blazer and Mustang for years. Never had a problem:dunno: Both have better than stock ignition putting out high voltage.
Liked the Taylors because they held up with headers better than any other wire i have ran for the money

Maybe Taylor has made a better wire over the last 25 years then. Once i discovered MSD wires though there is no "other" wire IMO.

Hey man, I appreciate you putting the time into finding those for me. I'll check locally and see what my cost is...probably closer to $50 or better. With any luck they'll have them in stock :haha:, or I'll have to wait another day.

It'll be nice to have this thing up and running so I can focus on some of the detail work like getting my interior back together, finish running the wiring for the other gauges and relay, switches and KC's, blah blah blah.

Oh yeah, you can only stay in the game if you get better. Look at NGK. For years their sales were continually declining due to Bosch's new designs. Then they started with their U-groove and V-Power's...back in the game.

Well, alls well! I threw in the new plugs (plug wires will be in in the morning) and went to crank it...fired up faster than my Trailblazer. Sounds good. I backed it off to 8BTDC and adjusted the Edelbrock carb to MMV and voila, runs smooth. The Flowmasters have to go though. I have Thrush's on my Ramcharger and can't have anything this quiet.

Thanks again to everyone for your help and tossing ideas around, I really appreciate it. 4x4HIGH, thanks man.
