I'm thinking about changing out my current stock air intake on my 89 350 TBI for either the Power Charger "Salad Bowl" from CFM-Tech, or the 57 Series Generation II from K&N.

K&N guarantees an increase in horsepower and acceleration. I couldn't find any claims on CFM's website about their charger, but I have read some good things about it on these forums.

Does anyone have a preference on these two products? The K&N part is a bit over $200 more, but if it's worth it, I don't mind spending the money.

Here are the two parts I'm talking about:

Thanks for the input.

The salad bowl does increase HP at higher RPM, their spacer with cutout between the 2 throttle bores also works. They do make good stuff! You can add all the air you need by using a Big Block lid and filter in your filter. Also can get another cold air intake from another air filter assembly, flipped over to add to other side and still keep hot air tube for cold starts. Dual snorkle!

K&N filters do make more HP, by letting more air in and not filtering air as good as a paper filter. You can look around internet for Dusted Motors for more info. If you live in or drive in dusty conditions it's a bad idea... shine a light from backside and look for holes...

I use a PRE FIlter on my K&N , this was after a 4hour trip in some pretty sandy environment. take it for what its worth. lol.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I think I'm going to get the whole shooting match from CFM-Tech: Power Plate, Pod Spacer, AFPR, and Salad Bowl.

My only concern is the TV Cable possibly needing an adjustment because of the power plate install. I've never messed around with a TV cable before, and I'd feel like a pretty big dummy if I killed my tranny because of it.

if you buy cfm tech's spacer plate, it will come with 2 spacers for your tv bracket to maintain proper geometry.. but you'll still want to re "set" it..... you'll also need to provide 2 longer 3/8 bolts for the bracket...

now HERE's a salad bowl!!! :haha:

Wow, you're right Ryoken... that is a costco sized salad bowl!

Unfortunately I just got denied by CFM-Tech's website. They said they don't ship to my address. I don't live out in the boonies, they named a soap opera after my town for peets sake! I'm assuming that the problem is it's in California, although I don't see how anything I ordered is emissions unfriendly. I'll give them a call on Monday to find out the deal.

Tell them it is for off road truck. Then it's legal. If not ship it to me (I will test for you) and I'll ship it to you. :haha:

Wish I had the time to build one of those and a cowl hood!
