Obviously most of these carburetor era trucks have crappy designs on the air cleaner/intake systems.

Be nice to feed it cooler and cleaner air

Curious what anyone is running other than just an open element air cleaner for air intake to fit a carburetor/round TB EFI

Stock setup with tube to core support on my pro flo 4 . Also did the tbi salad bowl mod and opened up the lower half to match .
I’ve thought about this. Maybe add a second tube to the core support

Do you have room on the left side to get through? I can't remember how your batteries are positioned.

But I am curious about options on this as well.

This made a huge difference in air intake temperature running down the highway. We're talking 50F on the setup in the pictures versus about 130F in the open element air cleaner on a 50F day. Air temperature would rise when sitting still at a light, but still a lot lower than the open element air cleaner I started with.

My dad's truck (454) had a dual snorkel air cleaner we made with stock parts. But it would have to be the restriction to the system (vs throttle body, intake, cam, heads, exhaust) to really be worth doing a double vs single.

"Cold" outside air is absolutely worth it, but no reason to go overboard on a dual setup if you are running a 450cfm throttle body, mild cam, small port heads, etc. IMO.

To add to what I posted, I've also run this set up:

It runs cooler than the open element air cleaner, but not as cool as the style I posted above with the cone filter and carb hat. The temperature basically runs between the open element air cleaner and the other style. I think this is because a lot of air sits in the filter housing and gets warmed up there. Whereas the style with the carb hat doesn't have a void of air to draw from at the throttle body and it's always pulling from the end of the tube.
