alright then. im telling everybody mine switches over to ram air as soon as the valves warm up and open.
So, from the picture only, doesn't it appear that this housing would restrict flow into the air cleaner to only the spots that are directly inline with the 2 openings? There doesn't appear to be enough clearance around the entire air cleaner for the whole element to flow air, but I don't have dimensions, just estimating based on the distance of the outer ring where usually contacts the element.
If you can get fresh air from outside the engine compartment, and not restrict it, it should only help. However, results will vary because of so many factors that can become restrictions, etc.
I have a few methods in use on my squarebodies. The K30 383 truck has a blower hat to 3" tube, to a 90* into the maf and air filter.
The 73 K5 has a Cadillac intake bonnet on the tbi into the maf then into a Ford airbox with k&n inside.
The 75 K5 has a factory 5.3 airbox with 4" aluminum tube between the throttle body and airbox

I run this same stock air intake system on my 1991 V3500 crew cab with TBI. I like it because the air intake tube is connected to a built in a drainage system in the radiator support core that GM built into it, which restricts water from getting sucked into the engine and hydraulic it.
Always wanted to do one of tbese....

exactly why the one i built has two snorkels now. It can only help!
I've thought about it too, but I don't think the cowl is deep enough to let the hood open.
