Aircompressor Direct - Ok To Buy From?

I never heard that a compressor needed to be in a heated area. I leave mine in an unheated room off the shop. That's quieter in the shop and keeps it away from any dust or mess from my work. I suppose you should make it a point to drain it from time to time when the temperature is high enough. Don't know how an auto-drain would work like that.

Just like any piston engine with oil, when the motor is below zero a significant amount more stress is put on start up.

Just an FYI, Quincy was bought by Atlas Copco about 5 years ago. Was working as a service tech with Copco at the time. Really like Quncy pumps, so did Copco. And shop around for a Belaire, or Napa compressor. All made in Rock Hill, SC. Same basic unit as a Atlas Copco just some lighter duty motors and electrical.

Yes, I am familiar with that and I too like Atlas which is why i have one of their 50hp screws for the shop. Good info on the Belaire.

No problem it was weird seeing it on the production line, same stuff different color. What did you have , a GA or GX.

I have mine in an unheated room with an autodrain. Obviously the auto drain stopped working when it got below freezing. So I installed a little cable pipe heater that was made to prevent water pipes from freezing and now it works great. The cable heater turns on whenever I flip the compressor on, doesn't heat all the time. Plus the cable doesn't turn on if the air temp is above 38.

Thats only true if you have a pressurized oiling system, which most home shop compressors do not. You definitely need to have the pour point of the oil low enough for cold weather operation, but synthetic compressor oil takes care of that problem because it doesn't get so thick in the cold and still works in the heat.

I am soon to buy a compressor for my shop. I was looking at the Ingersol 7.5 hp. Which is better IR or Quincy?

I'll take a Quincy over an IR... but IR's are usually good too...

Of the two, Quincy without a doubt. But look at Curtis and others. I just bought a big 80 gallon Curtis CA, and I absolutely love it. Almost 18 cfm @ 175, and you can talk in a normal voice standing next to it.

I need to put bushings on the cage because rattles, beyond that the Quincy is quieter than my little pancake compressor.

I ended up going with northern too, cuz they had free shipping...
