I am thinking of going to Alcan springs. right now i have TC ez rides in the front and though i am ok w/ them i would like more travel and gain some wheel base. the reason i dont want 52's up there is i have seen them in action and i'm just not impressed. they flex great but they wrap up hard and their old springs . i dont want 0 rates b/c of the extra lift. Alcan says they can move the pin up to 2.5" forward. the only thing i am conserned about is steering interferance. i have ORD crossover (low tie rod) are there any negitive effects about the draglink being moved up that far? right now it's perfectly perpendicular to the frame and tie rod, if i move the axle forward that will change the angle. will that cause anything to get unhappy? my goal was 110-112" wheel base if i do this i may end up at 115, but they may be spliting hairs. i also have f150's in the rear w/ the short side forward and i am planning on flipping them when i do this and install the doubler. what is the pin offset on 56"ers? i may switch to those if it wont move the axle back as much. 4" would be perfect. ok so sorry for the rambling but what do you guys think about the Alcans? their really not that pricey for what you get! thanks- justin

56" springs offset 4". So installed short side the rear, they add 4". I installed 52s in the front and 56s in the rear backwards and picked up about 6.5-7" of wheelbase.

The front axle moved 2.5" forward and I have no issues with the crossover. I have NWF crossover, but I don't see why ORD's crossover would be any different.

Incidentally I hope to swap out the factory 52" springs for some Alcans at the same 52" length. I'd like to get orbit eyes in the springs.

if you are going to have springs made then you should have them made longer. part of the reason 52's flex better then stock length springs is the extra length.

Then you can move the axle forward and keep it centered on the spring so that your crossover draglink doesn't rub the spring.

yes a flexier spring will give you more axle wrap and body roll. spring rate is a major factor in how soft a spring is.

But think about it, if you have springs built that give you more travel(your words, not mine) that means they will be soft and flexy. which means you will get more body roll and axle wrap.

yep. you cant get the best of both world, you gatta compromise on one or the other. only way to avoid really compromising on anything would be a dual rate coilover or something

i was gonna go to 52s but i just decided to keep my bds springs and move my shackle hanger foward so i have better angle..52s prolly still flex better but i have seen some impressive flex shots with the hanger moved (georgiagabe)

a well designed antiwrap setup and anti-roll bar are the only ways. Dual or triple rate coilovers will lean just as bad if not WORSE. Ever seen a crawler buggy take a corner? Scary. But with a good antiroll bar setup they can diminish the scary.

i guess a quick disconnect swaybar setup would help as well.

i thought you could get dual rate coilovers so they are really still til a certain amount of pressure is on them then they start flexing alot. as long as the first rate is pretty stiff, i dont see how that would be as bad or worse?? im no coilover expert tho haha.

yeah i guess your right. i have moved my shakle hanger forward already. i'm not going to get into hooking the swaybar back up ang all that i'm not thaat concerened about it. do you really think the draglink will hit the spring? they did say they build them longer to correct bad shakle angle w/ it in the stock location. therefore i could do one of 2 things A) move the shakle mount back to stock and try it or B) if that doesn't work and the draglink hits i can move the shakle mount back forward and the rigid mount forward to since they are longer already that should work. (in theroy):D what do you think?
