All these 700r4 posts lately

I've never heard of the spacer deal with the TH350. School me if you would?

It's just a spacer. I have a few of them. Makes a TH350 the same length as a TH700R4 so you can install it in place without having to change anything.

Did you tell him that's not a Dana 60 rear, or did you figure no point in making him mad? That is going to be the somewhat crappy ten spline set up with an NP205. I would look for an '85-'87 SM465/NP208 combo with hydraulic clutch, but that will work.

Actually, being a 1975, that might be an SM465/NP203 combo. Which would suck unless you were planning on building a doubler, in which case it would be pretty rare and kind of kickass.

An 85+ would be nicer. I slept on it, kinda having second thoughts :dunno: I like to rush and be compulsive, then regret it later. There's better stuff out there, the price was just right on that one.

If you are looking for 3/4 ton axles as well, that's not a terrible buy. That is a weaker external lug Dana 44, but it will have flat top knuckles. An SM465/NP203 combo would be good for a doubler.

Also, it would be nice if you could take it for a test drive. Nice to know if it pops out of second before you install it.

If it were me, I'd look for a 92 junkyard 700R4 and see if it still works without rebuilding it. Not all 700R4s are the same. Each year was an improvement over the previous. If you can find a junkyard 92 and have it rebuild, it will be tougher than if you just rebuild your 82 700R4.

1992 seems oddly random. 1987 is the first year of upgraded TH700R4's.

1992 was the last year for non-computer controlled 700r4s, which were actually named 4L60. This is the year with the most upgrades. After that it became the 4L60E. That's why I suggest getting a 1992.

Most transmission shops call all TH700R4's
4L60's. What upgrades does a 1992 have that a 1987 doesn't?
