What’s the scoop on the ring land?

Not sure what happened. Broke both ring lands under the compression rings. Didn't break the rings, and didn't score the cylinder. No other problems on the other pistons.20191102_104413.jpg20191102_104252.jpg

Too much booost!

Seems odd to bust one piston like that. I wonder if it was just defective like a poor casting or maybe it got dropped prior to you getting it and set a slight crack that couldn’t be seen.

Did it scratch the cylinder at all? Duh you mentioned it didn’t hurt the cylinder.

Nice car!

Did you gap the rings for the boost? More than likely the ring gap went to zero with the heat from boost and then something had to give....
It does have Total Seal gapless rings, but I believe we set the gap at .022. Should have been plenty for 7-1/2 lbs of boost.

Ok. So this happened. I've been trying to talk a guy into running his Nova, at the drag strip for years. He finally agreed, but then told me, that he wants ME to drive it at the track! He has owned this 70 Nova, since 1973!

Dynamite Dave already spilled the beans

Wow, lucky you….here drive my 9 second drag car for me! Funnernhell.
I have no immediate plans to get to the track again w my car. I want to make some safety upgrades and some strengthening upgrades for the rear suspension, and a disc brake system, but that might be a over winter project, as the body will probably have to be lifted to gain good access the frame.
Ive widdled away at it since last fall, and got down to 12.25/115. That was a big surprise.
How sweet it would be to hit the 11’s. Til then….

We have no clue what it will run....but......no roll cage, and lap belts only........Sometimes I wonder if I'm very smart. LOL

Thats what has me thinking of a 4 point bar and shoulder belts. Right now the factory belts are all I have. A helmet is my biggest safety device!

Friday Night will only be 1/8 mile racing, so it will give me some room to sort it out. No line lock for burnouts. Big drag radials, with pizza cutters on the front. Manual steering, and manual brakes. A semi ratchet shifter, that shifts differently from 1-2, and 2-3. Should be fun!!
