So he liked to race no prep in "stock block" classes, no wonder he was pushing the stock block so hard.

However, for me, taking no prep, which is already dangerous, and adding "stock block" to it, makes it even more dangerous.

I am glad he didn't hit the wall, or anyone else.
 
Have you seen Steve Morris's super billet deck ls engines? "Stock" aluminum block that can take more than 2000hp.
 
Yeah I have seen those, they even have a special head bolt pattern with 6 large head bolts per cylinder, like his big brother SMX.

This guy was apparently competing in stock block classes, so he can't even use a cast Brodix or Dart block, not even a GM LSX block, let alone a billet block.

So these guys are already limited by a low traction race track, and they are adding a potential oil bomb and flying debris to that list of limitations.

Got to give the guy credit though, getting 650 2000 HP passes out of a stock block with just 4 head bolts is actually impressive, he's doing the rest of the stuff right, but not something I would want to risk myself.
 
He makes and SML (LSX billet block/heads) and an SMX (BBC billet), but the super billet deck blocks he does are different. He does those for Viper and LS blocks now, he also just made the first SM Duramax (SMD?) billet block.
He carves out the guts of the block about half way down the sleeve bore and replaces it with a big chunk of billet. They're pretty pricy though.

Oh, yeah I have seen those too when he was CNCing them in his machine for the inserts, forgot about that. I thought you meant the LSX.

I wonder if that still counts as a stock block, good question.

I still wouldn't trust it, but it would explain how they didn't blow head gaskets all the time
 
It does count for stock block, that's specifically why he makes them. I don't think the one that blew up was like that though, probably just a closed deck conversion. Steve just started making the LS ones last year.
 
Yeah I haven;t had time to watch Steve must lately to be honest. So this is like another level of those units where he was machining the deck surface to put inserts to make a stock block a dry deck? Thats the one I was thinking of next, but this picture looks like a solid piece, not inserts.
 
The final run - Immokalee Regional Raceway in South Florida closes after 27 years.

Immokalee Regional Raceway, which is located on a runway section of Immokalee Regional Airport, has officially closed the gates on future racing.

Opened in 1999, the track had worked through a couple "growing plans" including a re-location to a new section of runway due to airport expansion in 2021. Despite the consideration expense and the time lost due to moving, the track was able to make the change and agree to a new three-year lease.

In 2024, the track faced an uncertain future, as an expansion of the airport threatened the track's survival. But, Immokalee Regional Raceway was able to complete the 2025 season, thinking it would be the last. They got some "overtime" in 2026 in the form of an extra 4 months, holding their final event on Saturday, April 25th.

The property the track was on is slated for additional aircraft hangars.
 
Damn, this sad news hit me really hard this morning. Kyle was such a kind, enthusiastic, and real person. I'd known him since the street racing and partying days in Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska back in 2003/4 when 1320 was just getting going. It's been awe inspiring to see him grow interest and passion for drag racing and motorsports in general across the world. He will be greatly missed.

And while I do not know any details about his passing, mental health is a real topic that needs to be more widely discussed.

I was waiting for my lunch between dealer visits and the first post I saw in IG was from Frieburger about Kyle’s passing. Damn.

Seen some posts that leaned one way or another about the cause but nothing official. Though the posts about mental health does certainly gives a possible insight on it. If it’s true it’s all the more tragic that somebody at his level might feel like it’s the only way out despite all he had going for him.

Rest in peace Kyle.

SICK WEEK WINS USA TODAY’S BEST MOTORSPORT RACE FOR THIRD TIME

Sick Week Presented By Gear Vendors Overdrive has claimed the USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Award for Best Motorsports Race for a record third time!
In a victory for grassroots motorsports against corporate giants, Sick Week pipped the United States Grand Prix (Formula One) at the finish line thanks to the support of thousands of racers and fans across the nation.
Since being first nominated for the USA Today awards in 2024, Sick Week has won each and every time, showing the impact drag and drive is having on the motorsport industry.
Sick The Magazine publisher Tom Bailey said that he was proud to represent the sport of drag and drive as a whole on a national scale.
“The drag and drive community is such a strong group and these three USA Today wins are for all of us,” he said. “Drag and drivers know the power of people when they come together. Time after time we have seen this community perform miracles against the odds. That’s the spirit that people feel at Sick Week and why they keep coming back.”
Voting for the USA Today competition saw some of the big hitters in motorsport such as the Indianapolis 500 and the Rolex 24 at Daytona get out of the gate strongly, but Sick Week clawed its way towards the top two within a few days of voting.
“Our real challenge was getting past the United States Grand Prix with all of their marketing power,” Bailey said. “But once again the community proved they had something to say. Drag and drive was able to beat Formula One and we think that’s pretty cool.”
Sick’s range of events has expanded continually ever since the first Sick Week in 2022. Motion Raceworks Sick Summer is set to take place next month, with Michigan Miles Presented By Driven Racing Oil taking place in August and Edelbrock Sick 66 to follow in late September.
“If you haven’t been to a Sick event before, we’d love to see you there,” Bailey said. “If you just start by spectating and following the route for a single day we guarantee you’ll be hooked. Maybe next time we’ll see you in the Sick Ward or even racing. But one thing is for sure, we know you’ll be back.”
