In my shop. Doing stuff.
I posted a picture in the Photo A Day thread.

I did not want to be accused of tech in the lounge.

1954 model WD45. High HP.:saweet:

Came with a working saw. Ran it before I bought it but it was a little week. Turns out the magneto was dying.

So now we are discussing the finer points of the lack of points. Feel free to chime in.

Having just moved from CO, I realize the tractor supply is limited, but come on. Get a farmall or a Oliver, hell even a Deere....

The saw could be cool.

Even though it's an AC. A WD 45 actually a decent little tractor.

Nice buy!

Cool purchase! Do you have a use for it, or just wanted one?
I enjoy using my dad's old 8N Ford, but I don't have a need for it very often.

Cool deal!

And I agree with you! The Old Timers did some amazing things. I wonder if we as a society have become too dependent on having the risks NOT being there. ( if that makes sense )

And I don't see anything wrong with an AC, being raised in Nebraska, there was something sorta neat about them, AND they weren't another Deere. ...

Very Cool, I always liked AC along with Moline. If you need parts let me know dad is very into the antique tractor scene. Owns more tractors than cars and he has a few too many cars.

It will run. I would love to get the distributor conversion. So if anyone has a line in one.......

Looking on line, ebay and tractor sites, they want a fortune plus cores. I dont have cores.

I could do a farmers fix for the magneto. Drilling a hole in it and adding a coil. May go this route. Not making a period correct restoration, just want to make it run.

My father in law has a sawmill powered by part of a David brown. Cut off just behind the engine and mounted on the stand. Has a driveshaft straight out of the clutch that powers the gearbox for the sawmill with a big lever to engage/disengage the clutch.

While that setup is kind of neat, I'd be scared to use it. Too easy to get into that exposed blade.

As far as the tractor goes, I like old tractors and that is a sweet Alice. However I grew up with farmalls and internationals, real tractors are red:D

Based on a link campfire put in the PAD thread, the engine is a WD, not a WD45. No big deal.

My eyes are sore from reading.

I think you're right. People are afraid to take risks...so they don't. I can't even begin to fathom how many awesome accomplishments have not happened just because people have a fear of trying things.

I know what you mean. I'm from Eastern Iowa. I grew up wedged between Deere factories in at least 4 nearby towns. Deere was everywhere. But there's no class in that, so I've always preferred less common tractors. My favorite (because it's what I own) is this one:

Much rarer than a Farmall or a Deere. Or even an Allis.

Yeah, I saw that, too. Hafta find the tractor number to figure out watcha got.

The engine may not match the tractor. FWIW, the previous owner of my WD45 had installed a D11 engine. You may find the tractor is completely unrelated to the engine. :dunno:

This is what I love about old stuff. Figuring ou what it is and making it work.
