Allis-Chalmers tractor purchase. Now, The Old Tractor thread. Post yours.

Keep your panties on, as usual it's a project. I bought it with out seeing it. $400 The only questions I asked does it have fenders and do the drive tires hold air. it runs, has fenders, needs a clutch and the drive tires hold air. :D

Some of us would prefer having a working clutch to having fenders. :dunno:

Yeah yeah, if a piece of equipment 60 years old still has fenders it's usually a good sign that it's in fair condition. Oh can't go wrong when fenders are worth the asking price.

The Cockshutt in the first pic looks BEEFY.

These two Cockshutt 50s (1953 and 1954) belong to my dad. The one with original paint was bought new by grandpa, he sold it on his auction in ‘63, the second owner then sold it on his auction in ‘07, when my dad bought it back. We did get grandpa on a hay ride behind it before he passed. They came from the factory with the 18.4-34 tires. Nebraska test rated at 58 hp. 6 forward /2 reverse gears.

1948 Farmall H, this was my wife’s grandpa’s and we got it after he passed last year. It had sat in the shed for 12 years and all I did was clean and set the points, cleaned the carb and it runs great. Original distillate model that were common here in the south.IMG_9508.jpegIMG_0814.jpegIMG_9467.jpeg

Now that I have another Allis Chalmers, I need to update this thread.

918 backhoe. Needs a cylinder seal replaced. I took it to two rebuilders. Neither could get the cap off. Local Cat dealer has a hydraulic machine, has been broken for months. Waiting on parts to fix.

So here I am.

8000 PSI has not budged it. Any ideas.

I am thinking that I will weld risers to get more leverage.

No set screws missed? I have seen 2 per cylinder at times.
Did you heat it after adding the pressure? I am assuming that you welded to the cylinder tube, but that may not be enough to break loctite.
I used to work with a guy who used A LOT of red loctite on the rod retainer nuts. Maybe someone did this to the gland? :dunno:

Keep the 8000psi on it beat on the spanner with a hammer. The shock and pressure may pop it free.
12 pounder until I couldn't hold it.

well I haven't much ram rebuilding under my belt. Is it possible left hand threads ?
Checked multiple times.

Spanner may pop off, can't tell how well it's held on.
A lot of heat and fully welded.

The cap has glowed red a couple of times.

There's a guy I see on FB videos that does cylinders at a hole in the wall hyd shop and he's usually got like a 5 foot pipe wrench with like 15 feet or so of cheater pipes stacked together and he hangs on it til it let's loose. Always scary!

It's just holding the little cylinder as I put spacers in.

I did not list the fail point.

The two 2x3 pics of tubing on the body started rotating on themselves.PXL_20240306_135202870.jpg
So I added a pice of 2x2x 1/4 hitch material off of the overhang.
