Allis-Chalmers tractor purchase. Now, The Old Tractor thread. Post yours.

My dad and uncle pulled them in the late 70’s, dad’s was run in super stock and still used on the farm for a disk and plow. Its been a long time since I’ve seen one in the wild.

Not much for Allis around here. There is a dealership West of here in the sand. I don't think they sell much new equipment.

Finally got to work on the backhoe. New cylinder bearing machined down and installed. Cylinder stuck into the arm and the easy end attached. Got the hoses hooked up and tried to start the tractor to push the cylinder into the arm to attach the other end. Nope. Would not even trip the solenoid. Pulled the batteries to swap them out because it has been months and my guess is they are old anyways. No. The manufacture tag shows 07/23 on both. I should have checked the voltage before pulling them. 12.5 each. I put them on chargers last night just for good measure. Pulled the solenoid apart and it was all kinds of corroded. A good cleaning and it fired up.

I changed the 3 really old hoses that were weather cracked and brittle. When I started the tractor, I noticed fluid running out. The good looking hose had been cut at some point right at the bottom and finally burst. No place to get a 3/4"x80 hose today.

It’s funny. These make me nostalgic for a family farm I haven’t been to in over 25 years or seen in over 16 years.

Still in the family. I just moved farther away and life happened.
