I know its been done.... but cant seem to find where to get the stuff. I probably could if i wasnt on a heavily restricted work puter... :doah:

Or is there a better passenger drop case than the 205:dunno: im not familiar with any newer stuff or like atlas and such

Just run an np241 with a 29 spline input shaft from an np261. The 205 would be a lot of work to adapt up to the Allison. It also is rated for less torque and weighs a ton more requiring a bunch of bracing to support it. And it has a really crappy low range.

205 is rated lower than the 241? i didnt know that... i always thought the 205 topped most all till 2 1/2 ton stuff. that wouldnt be too hard by the sounds of it

what Tcase comes behind the allison usually? The donor truck im looking at is an 05 chevy 2500hd with 8.1/allison 4x4. been wrecked hard but drivetrain is unharmed. i was thinkin of using the 8.1/allison and a 205 then swapping to m1008 axles and 35"-37" tires. it wont see a lot of rock but 4 wheel burnouts to show for buddies arent out of the question:rolleyes::whistle:

I believe the usual behind the Allison is the NP271. And yea, the 205 is loosing its clout as top strength dog.

what my plan was is put the 205 out of my kids blazer behind the allison if it was relatively cheap or easy and put my 700r4/208 combo into his blazer for a little better economy and ease of use for him. he wont be doing any HARD wheelin with it, and could use the OD. I like the skinny pedal ALOT:rolleyes: and want to have a bullet proof rig so my solo random road/trail expeditions arent bad experiences.

it sounds like it may be easier and cheaper to do the 241/261 thing. or just get an atlas:D not cheaper but not too out of reach in the near future

I don't remember the exact numbers but the reputation the 205 has as a super strong case comes ( I think) a bit of old school thought about how anything old is stronger:doah:

Input torque everything since the 241 has been stronger than the 205.

Do what Russel said easiest way and best way to get that trans in there. Plus you have a very good t case

i never thought of the 241 because i've heard that its basically a 208 and every one hates the 208:haha: I dont remember where i seen that, i have a direction now and will start looking into it:D I just gotta hope THIS donor truck isnt sold before i get the check im expecting:dunno: im going to call and see what i can do to hold it or something.... may be a month before i can pay for it:confused:

92,000 miles............ $3500. left front wheel and fender are severed off at the frame rail. but the rest hasnt been touched... so I can get .....

Engine w/harness and ecm
All brackets and accessories
Transmission
Maybe a Dshaft i can have modded to work in my truck
Rear axle
And a BUNCH of parts that can be sold off on egay and CL to recoupe costs:waytogo:

add a like geared D60 (found a few near me i can get and regear) and im set:thumb:

i checked a couple of Tcase parts places and cant find a 29 spline input shaft for the 261.... but i did find a one for the 241:D

i take it the 241 will bolt up to the allison

So the Allison output is not a 32 spline?

I would think at least it would be same and a BB or a 6.0 truck.

Btw. Nice find on the truck. I'm to the point where if I found the right deal on a 8.1 truck I would buy one again

its more than i NEED... but i figure if im gonna change motors..... might as well put a BIG one in it:waytogo: after riding in johns burb at the bundy hill run i realized i want POWER:saweet: i think my 4cyl rav 4 might even get up and go faster than my burb right now:doah: and i'm burning coolant somewhere. along with valve seals being bad:confused: its time.

dude still has it and the money's in the bank:woot:

now I just gotta figure out how to get it here:doah: 7hrs from me

my grandpa has a furd diesel that he delivers trailers with all over the country..... the trailer place that he works for/with will let him use any trailer he wants. I just got to get a hold of him and ask if he'll help me. my dad thinks he will. I have to go see him tomorrow

Does he deliver travel trailers from Goshen Indiana?

i think its out of bellevue iowa. but im not sure exactly what or where:dunno:

A passenger drop GM NP241 would bolt to the Allison, unfortunately there isn't a reasonable way to make the splines match up. New Process made a gear cut change in mid 94 to their planet gear setups, they do not interchange. All passenger drop NP241's are older than 94 and all 29 spline inputs are newer, so there really isn't a reasonable way to make that work.

As for strength, the NP241 does have 32 spline outputs (like the strongest 205 setup) but it's chain and case are the weak link in that case for sure.

There definitely are a handful of guys that break 32 spline 205 outputs with 1000hp diesels in truck pulls etc. and they have been switching to NP271 cases because they use a HUGE rear output shaft. They are burly cases, but I have yet to see anyone use those cases in a truck that really put a lot of stress to the front axle (they're still 32 spline front outputs, plus all 271's are driver's side front output).

Anything can be broken, I wouldn't be afraid of using a 205. They are stout cases and failures don't occur often. 205's that came behind first gen dodges with a cummins and a 5 speed had a 6 bolt round adapter and a 29 spline input. That will bolt up to the allison, but that adapter and 29 spline input are hard to come by.
