Allison 1000pk transmission

I just bought an allison 1000pk to mate with my 8.1.
The trans is a 4wd and i need to convert to 2wd.
Ive noticed that some output shafts have threads and a spanner nut to bolt them on while others are perfectly machined.

How do i know which one i need? Or do i have to tear my transmission apart to find out?


My transmission is from an 04 Silverado 8.1

Also, do the tail housings have a difference? Or are the 2wd versions pretty much the same?

talked with a allison tech a few weeks ago . he told me best way is buy a 2wd core to get all the parts needed . then stand your trans up on its bell housing this keeps all parts inline and not dropping out of alignment .

the back cover needs to come off . its a little tricky but comes off and is under pressure via a sprig .

then swap the 4wd parts for 2wd parts or visa a versa and make sure all parts match up other than the 3wd ends being different . some used a slightly different tail shaft in to the rear planet unit . this is why he said buy a whole 2wd core to get all you need .

i think in my swap i will just leave the t-case inplace and run it as is .
