Oh yah in no way am i even considering it lol. My buddy is just getting his heavy equip degree and rebuilding them and we were just BSing around with the idea. again "Not going to do it" lol.
They did but, not anymore. The 8.1 and DMAX could be had with the Allison but, the 6.0 was 4l80E (now 6L80E, I think is the name for the new six speed heavy duty non-Allison?). I could be wrong but I think the 8.1 was also available with the 4L80E too but, I doubt there musta been many takers on the 4L80E with having the Allison as an option!!! As mentioned though, no more 8.1 anymore.

I had a '85 chevy school bus with a 366 BBC and an Alison behind it. 545 I think. The Alison had a SAE bolt pattern, and a cast iron adapter plate to mate it to the BBC. Big SOB. It could be put behind a SBC no problem, but unless you're mud racing/pulling, completely not the right thing. I don't know if they were all that way, but mine was hella loud (gear whine on straight cut gears) and shifted hard enough to snap your neck back -- not in a fun way.
