alternative to wheel spacers??

A D70 isn't really any stronger or better than a 14FF, so get rid of the idea that a D70 is some upgrade in strength over a 14FF because it is not.

From my understanding a van-width 14FF is only a total of 3" wider (1.5" on each side) than a standard truck SRW 14FF. Now a standard SRW truck 14FF is already 3" narrower than a SRW front D60, so going to a van rear axle only makes it equal in width to a SRW front. A DRW front D60 is probably 7-8" wider than the SRW version.........so even a van rear axle will be quite a bit narrower than a DRW front.

Ok, so the Van 14bff is still the best option for the rear... but now im confused. do i not need a DRW D60 front axle? would that be too wide? Am i just looking at a good ol SRW D60 front, and the van 14bff rear???

Lots of info here but it's getting jumbled and out of sync.

** SRW D60 & van 14 bolt are the same width. Stock H1's can be run on this set up but you'll need 2" spacer atleast on the front if not all the way around. Readymix has SRW axles with 2" spacers all around.

** DRW D60 & D70HD or late model dually 14 bolt are roughly the same width. Stock H1's will fit fine as is.

** A van 14 bolt is 3" wider than a typical SRW 14 bolt but it's still about 5"~6" narrower than a dually axle.

** All references to any dually axles in this thread are for axles from pick up trucks NOT cab & chassis trucks.

another .02 cents...

My personal K5 had a DRW D60 and a 70" wms D70HD (same as a van 14 bolt). I've got to run 3" spacers to get the front and rear fairly even.
