im being given a 17X28'' aluminum two core radiator. i was thinking about using a taurus fan on this but will it be enough to cool it? im planning on getting a better thermostat and water pump

Those taurus two speed fans pull an incredible amount of air... They will cool a mild big block, forget a small block!

Aluminum rads are pretty efficient for getting rid of heat too, so it, combined with the taurus fan should keep your small block cool on even the hottest Texas day!

alright i kinda thought so. ive been reading up about the fan and the numbers ive seen bein thrown aroudn are about 4000 cfm. i figure hte aluminum radiator, fan, better aluminum water pump and thermostat i should be just fine

Well, I'm hoping to cool my 500 caddy with one...prolly not gonna work but I guess only time will tell. :o

Lets put it this way, I've got a 3.8 V6 electric fan on my 80 K25 with a TPI 355, and a secondary fan from a 4 cylinder Nova. I've never once had the secondary fan turn on, even with the truck just sitting there and idling for hours on end while I fiddle with the chip...

IIRC Marv Sprenger had a big block buggy (with an open engine compartment) that he cooled with a 19x26 and it worked just fine.

Anybody know the equations for horsepower vs. heat?

True dat...!

Mikey,
There's way too many variables to put your arms around this I'd think... aluminum heads, manifold, efficiency changes based on CR and cam...

But I know you can't go wrong going aluminum over Copper-Brass....

I know, I just thought someone made a VERY general equation at one point in time. I should go back to those SAE manuals. :doah:

Like I said, I'm pretty friggin worried about this Caddy motor, 500 cubes and a 19x28...we'll see.

This is a project I want to tackle soon, what is the general consensus, the Windstar fans or Taurus?

I'd assume it'd be best to cover as much of the rad as you can, so you can be sure you are cooling a wider area of the rad instead of just a single concentrated spot where the fan sits.

I personally plan to go with the single dual speed Taurus fan, for both my 96 and my 80.

So for comparison sake, what measurements match the Taurus fan? I'm sure I can search the answer for the Windstar.

Can't remember off the top of my head, but I believe there is a 1 - 2" gap at the bottom, but just about perfect side to side :)
