Am I offically backwards? (Or born in the wrong era?)

people forget what it's like not having cell phones.. we did fine for a long time without it..

I wanna get one of those handheld cell phone jammers and drive around with it on, or use it while walking around the supermarket... :whistle:

my peave isn't with tech.. it's more the fact with todays tech, and our wisdom in manufacturing, we could build killer products.. yet, most things made today suck compared to the 50's cuz of the $$$$... it's a disposable world..

that, and targeted advertising... :mad: which has now lead to big brother knowing everything you do.. I don't need pop-ups for things I'm interested in, etc... there's whole industries dedicated to that cr@p now..

almost worse than being a telemarketer...

You got it. The main problem is that those that run targeted ads collect, store, process, sell, mine, merge and match all of the data you put on the internet. And their security probably sucks, so at the very minimum they and the .GOV have your data. Plus anyone they sell it to.
 
Thats the main reason I leave my phone at home, I dont want a store I go to to access it and send me deals for what im looking at. Most stores are now accessing your wifi, because most people dont ever turn it off, and watch you on security cam and send you deals for what your looking at.
 
what's annoying to me is how this all started probably in the mid/late 90's as some "innocent" marketing scheme..... :rolleyes:

some mid-management douchenozzle sitting at a desk,, "gee, if we give the moron sheep ad's for their interests, we'll sell more"

"employee of the month" there... :waytogo: :rolleyes:


now it's soooooooo pervasive it's ridiculous... no thanks.. as a matter of fact, when I see it, I hate you and will buy less from you because of it.. If I want your product, I will seek it out and buy it, not have it spoon-fed to me like pabulum...... :sign19: :flipoff2:

I think this is an interesting point considering this is being said on an internet forum site :haha:

Technology has it's advantages and it's disadvantages. Does anyone else remember what it was like to buy/sell vehicles without Craigslist? Paying for an ad in the paper....boy did that suck! Does anyone else notice how when the internet really started to get popular is when we started to see our "sport" of wheeling really start to take off and see amazing advances (rock buggies)? I use a computer all day everyday for work. When I was at the beginning stages of college, I didn't know anything about computers, but with my degree I was forced to learn and understand it. Now that I have, I can say that technology is awesome. Yes, I do agree that some of the younger generations (10-15ish years old) depend on it a little too much, but all in all I'm all for it :D

I tell every telemarketer I get on the phone---I vow NEVER to purchase anything that was offered to me via an unwanted phone call,especially if they call at suppertime!..when I'm bathing..taking a dump...etc!..I dont care if they are giving gold nugggets away for 10 cents a pound..

Who thought up this crap?..."hey,I know--lets call people and interupt them at suppertime-- or when they are going to the bathroom or showering,and try to SELL them stuff"!!..

Dont they realize annoying people is NOT the best way to make a sale?..(and I swear they have me on camera,how else do they know when I had to poop,or am eating,taking a shower,or worse--trying to get laid!.?)..

Every day I get phone calls from some robotic pain in the rump telling me it "my last time to check your credit score"--when I have NO credit cards..:mad:..

I also hate the robotic calls my pharmacy insists on having call me constantly...telling me my precsriptions are ready to pick up at your convenience"...if I go there right away-9 times out of ten they are NOT "ready",they are still putting pills in a bottle,or scrambling to get them period,like the call went out instantly,before they even had it ready..and if I dont go get them instantly--the dam robot caller will ring my phone 5 times every day till I get there!...

I asked them to please remove my name from that "list",but so far they have not figured out how too...it was bad enough they had my scripts on "automatic renewal" without my permission--that led to my insurance refusing to pay for them because they were filled before the 30 day period passed!...:doah:

I didn't know stores could do that while your shopping--till one day a friend's wife showed me how coupons were offered on her smart phone after she had walked by a display of food at the supermarket!...talk about stalking you!..:eek1:

I was kind of creeped out to see just how much you can see on google's sattelite maps...now you can point and right click on ANY picture on the web,and click on "find this image on google"...so anything you have taken a photo of thats a landmark,will show up now,not only on the posts you put it on,I bet you can find out where on earth it IS via google too now,no doubt..
I dont doubt hackers can tap into security cameras at various locations and bussinesses and "spy" on you at work ,or while you shop too now...

Like that Buffalo Springfield song goes.."Paranoia strikes deep--into your life it will creep--it starts when your always afraid--step outta line,the man comes,and takes you away--..:eek:
 
the more I think about it the more I have to blame social media. The internet is a great tool when used properly.
 
Better start collecting magazines and catalogs and spend days, weeks, months reading and calling the manufactures....And hope you get the right info.

This made me laugh...... I'm 57, and back in my teenage years I lived in walking distance to Crane Cams in Hallandale Florida. I look back and laugh about how much eaiser I had it over most other hot rod guys back then...

I had first hand knowlege of a lot of things that were happening before they ever went to press in Hot Rod magazine !! :D
I met a bunch of real world engine guys that would happen to be there when I stopped in.... I met this one old man that built a few Chevy engines in his lifetime.... He was a Grumpy old fart...:whistle:
 
I definitely think part of it is from my Dad, He told me about his first car, a 55 210 Chevy that he converted into a Bel-air with junkyard parts.
He told me about working a Carter Carburetor, his first 4x4, a late 60's F250, and the first time he saw a K5 Blazer, a decided he wanted one.
And ended up with one, and another, another, and 4 more, and 7 more, and then a Suburban or 8, and more than a couple dozen K10's and 20's. Then throw in a couple of C20's and the odd C10 here or there.

He told me about taking a 73 K5 Blazer, and putting a 454 with a RV cam and Dual quads on it, and then selling it a month later for another one.

He told me about back when you could go talk to the old guys at the garages, and they actually knew some stuff.

Being able to buy some old car for $300 and putting half that into it, and having a decent little hot rod.

He told me about it actually being an occasion to go see somebody, not a couple of clicks.

And tons of other stuff, this is just barely scratching the surface.
He would have been 64 last month.



Also, this is my first post as a newly registered member.
