Amazing 80 K5 only 6K miles

Probably has 106k. or more.

I won't argue whether it's been recoated or not. But, if you look at the components, the underlying metal is obviously pretty damn clean and rust-free.

I mean, the components themselves are either original and very clean and under-used, or this is one helluva resto job...

I'm fine with either, and like I said, I'd be proud to have that truck parked in the garage.

I don't think this side trim can be bought any more. It looks mint.

Do they make repo door panels that looks this good?

Check out the areas where they missed with the paint:

Aren't the hub caps the wrong ones for that year?

If I were rich and bought this, I'd go ahead and cut up the fenders just to fit 44's and call it good. Just to piss off others for butchering the sheet metal. :D:popcorn:

If you read the ad, the seller clearly states that the undercarriage has been painted "I would like to add, the previous owner had the undercarriage painted with a flat black paint (not thick undercarriage spray) The paint is thin and was applied to give the undercarriage a very clean look". In spite of this, the under side looks to be very clean. It doesn't look like there is any scale or rust under the paint at all. The paint on the body does have some chips and road rash near the wheels so it may be original. Keep in mind that these trucks were far from perfect when they were new. Poor panel alignment, overspray, and crooked trim were quite common.
I would guess that the mileage listed is not accurate. Either way, this truck is super clean. I wish I could find one lack that around here, although I definitely wouldn't pay 18K for it.

Its just tough to say. THere are several things that stand out as being true low mile, but some things that stand out as BS.

There it is... Of course, if the damn eBay ad didn't include 100 versions of each angle of each picture, to the point that it took over 10mins to load on my work laptop (aircard) to the point where it shut down my VPN software ( ) then I would've been more inclined to actually read the ad... as would have everyone else, I'm sure....

:doah:

Is it just me or are the needles on the gauges hella faded while there isnt an ounce of fading on anything else?

Also they are quite careful to keep the inner lip of the fender out of frame. If you look close there seems to be a fair amount of primer or something there.

Normally the engine compartment is a dead giveaway. With this one it just makes it more difficult. Again, some stuff says 10k miles, some stuff says alot more. The master cylinder looks like way more than 10k,

I dont think the seat brackets/ bolts were painted black like this but i could be wrong. The other side looks more original.

That could be the flash, the smaller needles dont look faded. And really, after years and years, your figuring 30 years, its going to fade slightly regardless, even if it is unrestored. I doubt it was stored inside its entire life.

And the 60s,70s, and 80s and early 90s were notorious for overspray, terrible panel alignment, different screws and bolts and such, at the time they just used whatever they had handy to get the job done and sell the vehicle. There was no worry on quality control and ect at the time. Foreign vehicles brought that with them when they became popular. I mean, Im sure its been worked over, might be a mileage lie, but then again, it might not. Either way, I would lift it, mud it, and it most likely wouldnt look like that when I was done.

One thing though, that is a original factory tag for that 205, a friend of mine was the 2nd owner, his grandfather being the first, of an 80 3/4t pickup and it had the tag still on it.

But I have noticed, is that a points style dizzy? Looks almost like an HEI, not sure what was the first year of them though.

I find it hard to believe that the factory emissions is still hooked up, me personally I have never seen something 30 yrs old that had all that on it.

And that motor hasnt had much work, as them hose clamps where standard issue used at that time. Anybody doing work replacing hoses and such wouldnt buy them old style ones anymore, hard to find around here atleast. They woulda just bought junk worm clamp style ones.

The master cylinder was uncoated, 30 yrs of humidity will do that if its sitting in a box on the shelf, so I can understand that.

Thats exactly my point. It wouldn't just be the needles to fade tho. The needles look faded but the door panels look perfectly factory fresh?

My bet is that someone started out with a nice blazer, did an expensive resto on it, and now are trying to pawn it off as original. Nice truck for sure! And i would die to own it! But i just don't think it has the original low miles that they claim.

I think its the real deal not a resto . underocoating the chassis to make it look better. the underhood is what tells me its real . it has all the factory hoseclamps and brackets that hold them. all the factory emissions equipment is there. all the hoses are still marked with there GM part numbers, stuff that your average restroation would not have. I would bet that under all the that black undercoating you would find all the factory chalk marks.

I have a little experience in these trucks with ultra low miles, I've bought low mile (under 20,000) trucks from the GSA auctions that were stored inside and they very much look like that under hood.

master cylinder, its 30+ yrs old that have had fluid in it I think it looks ok , look at the booster, its not rusty you can still see evidence of the cad coating

I think what we have is a low mile barn find that some used car lot found and "detailed"

Looking at this page (Thanks Dremu) I don't see that side trim ever available even with single tone paint and low options.

http://brochures.slosh.com/index.shtml?1980

Even the single color K5's got the full trim we all know. It leaves holes in the body when removed.

To remove that trim would require a fair bit of hole filling and body work, plus a full paint job...

On the flip side, the inside of the frame and the engine compartment scream "original".

My best analysis based on what I see is this was a 106,000 mile survivor that's been painted and detailed. Door panels are probably LMC, side body trim is aftermarket crap (and crooked FFS)

Seriously, who buys a brand new Jimmy and never drives it at all? 6000 miles in 32 years? You'd have to guess a low option Jimmy would see close to normal miles at least the first 5 years...it'd take an extra-ordinary set of circumstances to keep the miles that low. So, my question would be "what is the story behind the alleged mileage?" Did the owner die and leave this in a climate controlled, sealed barn for 31 1/2 years?

As for the flat black underneath, that is 100% the dealership that did that. If it was a previous owner it'd have some wear on it already.

I hate dealerships...leave it alone and let me judge it's value based on what is really there, not the overtly detailed and tarted up version you are trotting out as a 6000 mile original.
