I have been trying to get some -6an fittings onto braided stainless hose. First time not doing hard lines with a flare. Can't believe they are actually designed this way. I am going from the factory hard lines on my K5 down at the frame up to the fuel rails on a ProFlo4. Got 1 to work and have failed about 10 more times. Watched a dozen videos and just can't get this hose to cooperate. After a couple fails, the hose ends up too short and expensive hose now won't work for me. WTF?

Tried tape on the hose. Tight, loose, masking, electrical, medium thickness, real thick wrap, etc. Cutting with a 4", 1/32 cutoff wheel. Each time I remove the tape to get the fitting on, the braid springs open and won't go into the fitting nut. Jegs hose and fittings designed to fit together, or not.

Any thoughts?

I will get some tonight. Just standard -6an. Need to do 2 straight, 1, 45deg and 1, 90 deg.

This hose:
These fittings:

Also got a few of the Elite fittings but I think they are the same with a red nut on the end instead of black. Just got the red to color code the supply and return.

I found the that if I used different brand fittings with different brand hose, the job was a bare. Same brand fittings and hose much better, also fitting and type of hose can make a difference.

then I got Koul tool omfg what nice tool make the job so much easier.

I didn't like the Jegs branded fittings I got, they had a smaller ID then others, I finally settled on Fragola from now on. I have used Evil Energy it's an ok brand.

My fingers are raw from struggling with these fittings tonight. Tried 20 or 30 times all sorts of ways and never got them to work. Going to have to try some different fittings and tools.

wow thats some effort. i don't it has ever taken more than 3 tries, w/o success, before the Koul Tools. Going to use the tape @Fastereddie posted next time electrical tape is ok but I think the string tape might work better

Sane issues here. Have koul tools. Tried packaging tape, cut-off wheels and even ruined a set of snap-on side cutters in frustration.
I've been having luck with Raceflux fittings and their black viton hose. A little "33" electrical tape and a super thin cutoff wheel. Remove tape carefully and lube fitting and hose with Teflon liquid. Sometimes I get the nut started on the end and spin it the rest of the way with a 1/4" cordless impact haha. It's a xrap shoot.
However I have thrown out whole rolls of that stainless /hard plastic ptfe. I don't know how anyone can get that sh*t to cooperate.
Redhorse fittings work well too. I think some fittings just work better.

My most recent experience with the stainless/ptfe hose was not a problem. It was Russell stuff. I don't know why you are having such a difficult time, but I haven't messed with much of the different brands. Regular Aeroquip hose was not a problem for me, just not as fast as a crimped fitting.

Dumb question, are the collars right hand or left hand thread onto the hose? I seem to remember finding both , but I may be remembering incorrectly.

Maybe you could find someone local to show you the ropes, it's not that difficult once you get the hang of it. Tedious but not difficult!

Tried lubricant on the fitting. No chance the hose is going in the fitting with tape on it, just too tight of a fit. Right hand threads. The stainless sleeve springs open too much to start the fitting. It is even trying to spring open before the tape is all the way removed. I think in order for this stuff to work the install tool needs to be used. The video from jegs makes it look simple, but there is definitely something wrong. Either the stainless is wrapped too tight or the fittings just dont have enough lead in taper. The one I did get to fit was real tight pushing the hose all the way in.

Right after removing tape before even trying a fitting. Some were better but some were also worse.

Heres one with 2 wraps of tape still left on the hose. Stainless already trying to unwrap.

I think I am going to have to just scrap the Jegs stuff and try some Fragola or Russell. I cant finish this ProFlo4 install without these hoses. 50psi or so needs this style hose or a hard line.

This video is a lie from my experience. Nothing like how the stainless hose actually behaves.

There are other options besides the braided stuff. I tried the Earl's vapor guard earlier this year, after I had cheap fittings blow apart. Assembly is a breeze.

But all the cool kids have the fancy braided lines!

Thanks, this looks like a nice product. They all look the same covered in dirt anyway.

Did some measuring, The nut where the hose pushes into ends up with a .505 inside diameter, starts the taper at about .600. The braided hose is .560. Not a lot of room, the hose has to compress .055 just to fit inside the nut. The braid can only open up .040 before it won't start in the taper. They should just tell you that this system needs a tool to get the braid to start into the nut taper, there just isnt any room.

Before the Koule tool existed, I had a trick. I bought brass tubing tate fit over the braided line just loose enough to slide. Would cut the brass and braided together obviously. Then start the fitting on and it would push the tube out of the way. Then I slide that short piece of brass tube to the first addel clamp to hide it.

I’ve had good luck with Summits house brand of hose, Earls and Fragola brands. Even mixing them together. Now I also only use the ptfe lined stuff as it’ll last longer and can stand up to basically whatever you want to flow through it.

I also put the nut over the line before cutting too. And a little lube on the end helps the hose slide into the fitting.

Well, I doubled down. I really want to figure this out. Ordered the KOUL tool and some vise jaws. Had taped the jaws but only got that far with 1 fitting anyway. It looks like some of the other brands have a bit more of a lead in taper than the Jegs fittings which would help. I almost switched to the vapor guard, its still my plan B. I will try the Jegs fittings with the KOUL tool and report back. If they still suck I will order in more fittings and hose and try the tool with other brands too. I am all in on fancy fuel lines that nobody will see behind my motor. :waytogo:
