AN hose help

Hey guys,

So I'm restoring my '87 blazer and was looking to replace the old fuel lines. As I can't seem to find premade replacements, it looks as though I will have to make my own. The thing that is stumping me are the two stainless hoses going from the hard line in the rear of the truck to the sending unit on the tank. I have absolutely no experience making AN hoses and am looking for some advice.

The two lines seem to be 3/8 and 5/16. Basically what I'm asking is for a quick run down on AN hoses. What fittings should I look for? What size hoses? How do I connect them to the sending unit fittings?

From what I've read, I need -05 and -06 AN hose. I've found fittings that go from the AN hose straight to the hard line and will most likely be using them on the one side of the hose. But, that's about all I know!

Please any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

PS - feel free to correct me if I'm incorrect with any of this

This page has the AN fittings you'll need to attach to the sending unit. If you don't already know about them. -6AN is what you'll want.

Can you look up and find a local hose maker that you can use? If you can get all your measurements listed, they can make you some good hoses with machine crimped ends. Mine are all that way with 300 psi rated FUEL line.

From what I understand about AN hoses (very little) the -0x measurement is 1/16" increments.

For example -06= 6/16 which is 3/8".

That's all I got. :D

Wow thanks! This is exactly what I needed.

So I think I know what I will be ordereing, Buying 6 feet of 6 AN hose, 4 Female hose ends, the two adapters mentioned in that thread, and two AN to tubing adapters. I will be replacing both the supply and return line with 3/8 Aluminum line and most likely reusing the two stainless lines that go to the throttle body.

The only thing I need to figure out now is how I will connect the return line from the throttle body to the new 3/8 hard line. (normally 5/16) I'm going to try the smaller metric adapter on the throttle body line just to see if it is the same thread, if so, I'll just get an apater for 3/8 tubing to that metric fitting.

Again, thanks for the help, I'll keep the thread posted on how it works out. :thumb:

When you get it all worked out and done, can you show some pics and list out your complete shopping list? I need to fix up my setup. 87 is passenger side fuel, right?

BTW, where/what is the fuel filter in 87? I bought 90 or 91 parts when I did my conversion and got the big metal canister fuel filter with saginaw fittings. The sending unit was also saginaw, not AN, IIRC.

I actually ended up deciding on running stainless AN hose all the way from the tank to the throttle body for the supply line and rubber hose good for 50psi for the return line.

Here is what I ordered:

EAR-9894DBJERL -6AN TO 16MM X 1.5 ADAPTER (Sending unit supply)
RUS-640820 ADAPTOR FITTING (Sending unit return)
RUS-648060 #6 TO 16MMX1.5 O-RING SEAL (Throttle body supply)
RUS-648070 #6 TP 14MMX1.5 O-RING SEAL (Throttle body return)
SUM-220690 6AN HOSE END STRAIGHT x4 ( -6 AN hose ends)
SUM-220765N FITTING 6AN TO BARB ALUM NAT x2 (rubber hose ends with Female AN)

For the hose:
SUM-230615 S.S. HOSE -6 15FT
GTR-65128 HOSE 3/8" RUBBER 25' FUEL LINE

I also ordered an inline reusable AN fuel filter to replace the stock one rather then buying more fittings to make the OEM one fit.
PFS-10216 INLINE FUEL FILTER RED/BLUE -6

As for the stock fuel filter location, its on the supply line near the rear cab mount.

I'll post some pictures once it's all plumbed up probably in a couple of weeks, got a bunch of stuff I have to do in the mean time.
