An out loud thought by y5mgisi: My future truck build.

If you start looking for a 88-98 style truck to do the swap on. try your hardest to find one that has a nv4500 in it already as well as a floor shift t-case

it was a failry common combo so it should be easy.

Also, if you go super duty axles...look for the newer 06 and up axles. The fronts are "super 60"s and have much stouter knuckles and come with 35 spline outters already.

Look it soem of the work being done by xxxtraction (lavender bros) they actuall did a pretty sick link setup with super duty axles on a body style truck like your talking about,

They were saying in the pirate post that the later super duty 60s, although stronger, get you stuck running coils.

Also I thought the super 60 was the big 10 lug behemoth the F450s and F550s with factory 4wd had in front that matched the dana 110 in the back?

coilovers mainly. But yes if you want leaves then this isnt the way to go i guess.

I believe the 10 lugs are just a lug conversion...i think its the same axle

Looks like its pretty much a different axle.

"
The Dana Super 60 is an upgraded version of the Dana 60 front axle.
Differences in the Dana Super 60 versus the regular Dana 60:

  • Larger and thicker diameter steel tubes (3.75 inches diameter and 1/2 in thick)

  • Larger ring and pinion which increase the contact area and overall strength.

  • Larger Universal Joints which increase strength and steering angle.

  • Super 60s use 1550 Universal Joints.

  • Net formed spider gears for increased strength.

  • All made with 35 Spline axle shafts.
This axle was used only as a medium duty unit until the Third Generation F-450 Pick up began production. The Third Generation F-450 pick up is a light duty truck. This axle is still used in the medium duty F-450 and F-550 4x4 trucks as well."

Well, toby at xxxtraction has done a few different kits with what they are callling a "super 60" and it is the front d60 from an f350. his kit was based around that axle due to the fact that it had sealed tubes and 35 spline inners and outters.

Theres been a few others that have supported this aswell. But this was only in the 06 and newer d60 if i remember correctly.

Im dont know this from personal experience just phone coversations. Maybe they are just calling it a super 60. but they are supposed to have the upgraded spline count and the outter seals on the tubes.

This would be insanely ideal truck for my plan! Already diesel, already a 95, already a 5 speed, good looking, and fairly cheap!

Ok, so, my latest and greatest plan. For my hunting/woods truck. 88-95 chevy/gmc extended cab 3500 with tbi 350 and 5 speed trans. Do a low lift sas with a d60 and be done. Must have roll up windows, manual door locks etc. Part B of the plan is to actually take the truck out into the woods... :doah:
