My K5 has lost all forward gears, I just put a new edelbrock carb on it and I guess I forgot to hook up the TV cable.
I know, I know, it was a bonehead move but it happens.

The K5 had been sitting for maybe 10 years before I got it and the tank was full of varnish and my buddy said it needed a head gasket.
He also said that it wouldn't go into OD as he could remember.

I get it home and do a little tinkering here and a little tinkering there and end up putting a new carb on it, dropping the tank and cleaning it out, putting a new radiator in it because the one that was on it wasn't the right size, it came off of a 96 (from the yellow writing on it) and it would get hot. I also used some STP head gasket fix and a new thermostat and now it doesnt get past 160 degrees...hooray, not a permanentt fix but I dont want to sink a lot of money into a 305, just enough to get it running for a while.

I also had to put 4 qts of tranny fluid in to bring it up to full.

I would almost bet it has never been serviced.

so, back to the question...
the fluid looks good, smells burnt.

What are the odds my 700R4 just needs servicing?

Or do you think it is trashed?

Did you eventually hook up the TV cable?
Did you check the fluid level with the engine running and warm?

I wouldn't add fresh fluid to 10 year old fluid. Id do a fluid and filter change. If it's been sitting for 10 years with low fluid, I bet the frictions are dry rotted.

Looks like rebuild or swap time...

thanks guys.
