another 700R4 question

Sadly, loss of reverse is usually an indicator of real problems in the 700R4/4L60E, with the exception of a loose retaining plate at the rear of the valve body that holds down the seperator plate over the reverse passages. No overdrive and no reverse can be a stripped or broken sun shell but that will also mean a loss of second gear as well.

What is strange is the fact as far as I can tell, second & third gear work ok,and reverse has worked every time I had to move the truck around the yard--I have not had the truck registered yet so I have not been able to drive it since I drove it to my house 10 miled from where I bought it from--it tried going into OD a few times, but jumped right back into 3rd when it did..reverse worked when I got it home too..

The previous owner told me his experience with it was reverse worked ok first thing in the morning, but when he drove the 15 miles to work,it often refused to back up,like wouldn't engauge, like it was still in neutral..

He only went as far as dropping the pan on it,when he saw the fluid was nasty and dark,he just sprayed the filter and the valve body off with brake cleaner and put the pan right back on it and refilled it,and added a quart of Lucas tranny treatment....figured it was toast..then he got a newer truck and it sat awhile, and I got it cheap because his condo landlord wouldn't allow it to sit there unregistered and waste a parking spot..

I'm not sure if it would be worth my time ,money and effort to try changing the filter and fluid in it now..

I have not looked at the TV cable to see if its set properly or even hooked up,but I assume its working OK because it seemed to shift up OK..

I noticed a slight "buzzz" noise in park at just past idle that seems to come from the tranny too,not constant,it just makes a buzz when you give it some gas and let off for a few seconds..maybe thats an indication its on its last legs as well..its been a year or more since I last started the truck too, which I'm sure isn't doing any of it any justice..
I may need to resurect it soon,if my pickup's 6.2 decides to crap out,its making some disturbing noises lately that sound potentially fatal..:(
