Another axle? Can 10 bolts handle 35\" tires if I gear correctly?

Boy, nothing comes easy with a 1/2 ton. Will moving down to 4.56 gears and using synthetic lube alleviate the stresses of 35" tires or am I just wasting time and money?

I think the weakness in the 10 bolt lies mainly with the carrier. Not to mention the c-clip axles.Do you have 28 or 30 spline axles? I run 35's with my 10 bolts and 3.42 gears, the only problem i've hade is with the crappy GM gov.lock posi's.

It all depends on how hard you drive it. Eventually, these axles will take a dump on you, but you should be able to get quite a bit of use out of them. I ran 35's with 3.08's in my 10 bolts for about 3 years, doing lots of mudding and smoking the tires with no breakage.

Ya, I've got a 1990, I'm not sure how many splines. No locker. It was just rebuilt before I bought it. I'm in a delema, Ive got 3.73 now and 31's I wouldnt mind a little better towing power. Dosent seem that there will be much diff if I go to 35" and 4.56. Are 4.88 an option?

4.88's shouldn't be a problem, they'll put your 80mph cruise RPM at about 2700, but that's about all. That's assuming you have a TH700 in it. It should be pretty nice to tow with. Gear strength should be ok, every bit lower you go with the gears loses strength, but if you're not pounding it off road you should be fine. If you do pound it off road, save your money for something beefier.

Thanks alot, I was thinking more like a 2300 rpm 65mph cruz. But 80mph sounds fun though.
