So, my jimmy likes to eat u-joints. This is the 2nd one in less than 30 days. This wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take the yokes with it when it does this. And I am like most people, in a financial pickle, and need it fixed ASAP. And I have the new u-joint, but I can't track down a yoke for a reasonable price. I was contemplating going to pick-n-pull, but before I go, I have a question; is the yoke from a NP205 the same as from a 70's 2wd transmission.
Aslo the jimmy is a 71, the yoke that failed is the one on the t case that goes to the rear axle, and I need it fixed before Friday.

On another note, this is sad, the jimmy just got painted and is topless... but she can't move :(

i had the same problem over and over. i went to a pick and pull and got a newer style yoke. the u joints are a little thicker. Make sure your shaft is balanced. the yoke is a 32 spline slip yoke on my 208 idk about 205. the rear yoke was $110 new. look up driveshaft king, thats who ordered mine. i think jegs has them for about 90.

Somethings pretty wrong if you killed a joint in 1 month. Are the angles really bad or is the shaft itself bad?

Assuming it's the stock fixed yoke 205, it'll be a 32 spline output if that helps. Don't know about compatibility with a 2wd though.

it was a different joint than the first one (first was at the axle, this one is at the t case), also it doesn't help with 350 that's got all the bolt on upgrades you can imagine (edelbrock intake manifold, edelbrock carb, k&n air filter, Hooker performance headers, very mild cam, full MSD) andit really doesn't help when I'm 16 and like to have a little bit of fun... and learned that 35s don't like to spin on asphalt :o (I'm quitting trying to keep up with cars when it comes to street stuff)
but thanks for the spline info. and also, i was hoping for a NEW yoke for under 80, and a junkyard one for under 40...

Ah, I see. Might wanna check the yoke you replaced on the axle side as well to make sure that one didn't get damaged again.

I did, that one looks fine. but I didn't do all too thorough of a check, thanks for the reminder.

its gunna rain man!! FWD that thing under something! lol
I drove it home in 4wd, and boy did I piss off some people that may have been in a hurry :D. and its got a big tarp over it now, and if all else fails the interior is bedlined and its not like the seats haven't been wet before and theres no radio or any fancy electrical stuff in it.

get the rear yoke from a 203 from the wrecking hard, or buy it from someone selling a junk 203 on craigslist. easier to find, and the same thing.
th400 is the only bolt on 2wd yoke i know of. not easy to find, 32 spline, but i dont know if it would fit
