So I had to sell my K5 a few months back due to some family stuff which has since been resolved. I was gonna save up for something and wasn't sure what just yet, when an '80 Suburban K20 was offered to me. I can get it for next to nothing, runs great shifts great drives great, but the whole back half of the tub is destroyed. Apparently it was backed into a pinhouse of a 5th wheel trailer and it's beyond repair. I thought about grabbing it just for parts since it was running and driving good and both axles had been gone through with fresh 4.11's, but decided to pass on it. It's been a while, and the guy texted me today asking one more time if I wanted it, basically free at this point, said I can keep it there til I'm ready to move it, or he's gonna scrap it.

I know a guy with a 79 3+3, cabs rust free and it's in real good shape minus broken glass on passenger side, been sitting a long time, and I know I can get it for dirt cheap if I bother him about it. Thinking it would be rad to do a crew cab swap on the suburban frame, run 64's and zero rates out back to move the rear axle a bit, and it's got 70's square body lines with round lights. Would be stoked on it and I have the room to do the swap. I know about the trans tunnel differences, no big deal. I know the crew cab has a bolt in hump as it has no carpet.

Would love some pictures, specs, etc on rear cab mounts. I know a handful of people on here have done it, tried searching but haven't found much in the way of actual detail about the rear mounts.

Thanks guys!

The body mount thing is easy , do you have the donor crew cab frame still??

I do not own the trucks yet but I have them accessible to me complete. I will have the complete crew cab frame. I just read that all is needed is to cut the mounts off the outside of the suburban frame weld the crew cab mounts on the inside?

Yeah pretty much dude , it's like it was made that way

What I did on mine was to take the stock 56" springs and turn them around backwards it pushed the axle back 4". And got the tires away from the cab . It was a little tight on the fuel tank but I needed up raising it anyway then we did a cool little flatbed for it . With some under body truck tool boxes on top of the bed for storage .

Assuming the crew cab is 2WD?

You could go the other way and graft the front frame from the burb into the crew....

That's kind of what I'm planning. Thanks for the info! Did you have to modify the shackles/hangers running the springs backwards or did they bolt right on? If you ever get a minute I would love to see some pics! Sounds rad!

Yes the crew is 2 wheel, definitely wouldn't want to hack up a k30 crew cab! I thought about that too, but I like the idea of the shorter wheel base and just welding a few mounts vs the whole frame lol

I don't think I have any pics it was a short lived project, I ended up parting it out and going with full burb body again so we could sleep in the back . The bed ended up on my buddy's Trimmy

No issues on running the springs backwards they bolted right in .

Sleeping in the back is why I used to enjoy my suburbans, but I'm 6'10, my wife is 6', we got a Great Dane mix, we just need more room than that. Think I'd rather tent it out of a utility trailer or tow it to the playground with an RV lol, but that being said, it wouldn't be too terrible having just a Burban...
