Has anyone used this crossmember with an 8.1L? I would rather just buy one if it fits right to save me some time. But with the large cast aluminum oil pan I'm not sure it will fit and dont want to waist my money on something that wont work.

I called ORD and the lady who answered didnt know.

Any input?

Heres my theory

If? Advance adapters sells motor mounts to put a 8.1L in an early model with a stock crossmember then the ORD Crossmember should work.

I think you have to either by motor mount adapters or build your own so you sould also make the motor work around the crossmember.

I don't have any knowledge on this subject but that is just my thoughts

Advanced adapters doesnt sell motor mounts for an 8.1L. They aren't needed. The older motor mounts with the three bolt holes from a SBC bolt right on. They actually cast a few extra holes in the motor mount location on this engine. ORD's competition style motor mounts will bolt right up to this engine. But it's the oil pan thats the issue. Its much bigger than the Gen V or VI BBC. The sump is deeper and comes further forward.

Here is the best image I have currently of the oil pan with the motor installed in the truck.

This motor drops right into my '80. The only real issue was the brake booster and engine crossmember. I added hydroboost brakes for clearance reasons and better braking. And I cut out the factory engine crossmember. Now I just need to fab something up or buy something if anyone makes it to fit.

Go check out Pacificfab.net I dont think they have them on the website but I know they make them because they specialize in doing newer engines into older GMs.
